Publication number: 20190375555Abstract: A one-piece closure includes first and second closure portions. The first closure portion includes a top wall portion and an annular skirt portion. The skirt portion includes an internal thread formation and a first frangible connection that partially detachably connects sections of the skirt portion. The second closure portion includes a tamper-evident band that is partially detachably connected to the skirt portion by a second frangible connection. When the first and second frangible connections are broken, a tethered bridge is exposed. The tethered bridge is attached to a portion of the first and second closure portions and extends from about 5 to about 60 degrees around the circumference of the closure. The frangible connections extend from about 300 to about 355 degrees around the circumference of the closure.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 11, 2019Publication date: December 12, 2019Inventors: John Edie, Leland T. Lutton

Patent number: 9790005Abstract: A plastic closure embodying the principles of the present invention comprises a closure cap having a top wall portion, and an annular skirt portion depending from the top wall portion. The skirt portion includes an internal thread formation for threaded engagement with the external thread formation of an associated container. In order to facilitate high-speed application, and minimize the use of polymeric material, the closure is configured to exhibit a variation in retention force which decreases in a direction away from the top wall portion of the closure cap.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2011Date of Patent: October 17, 2017Assignee: Closure Systems International Inc.Inventors: Sohail Sadiq, John Edie, David E. Gevers, William Moll, Navaneeth Bashyam, Pranav Bhatt, Russ Tartock

Patent number: 9126726Abstract: A plastic closure includes a top wall portion, and an annular depending skirt portion having at least one internal thread formation. In order to facilitate high-speed closure application to an associated container, the closure includes an application guide feature positioned in circumferentially spaced relationship to a thread start of the internal thread formation of the closure. The application guide feature is configured to engage the lower surface of an external thread formation of the associated container, whereby cocking, tilting, and other misalignment of the closure is avoided as it is applied to the container with high-speed application equipment.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2013Date of Patent: September 8, 2015Assignee: Closure Systems International Inc.Inventors: John Edie, Daniel Elliott, Erin Green

Patent number: 8763830Abstract: A tamper-indicating plastic closure, and tamper-evident package includes a closure wherein the closure includes a pilfer band having a substantially continuous tamper-ring. The tamper-ring extends generally angularly upwardly and inwardly of the closure in a tamper-indicating orientation of the tamper-ring for engagement with a relatively enlarged annular locking ring of the associated container. The tamper-ring includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced projections, which comprise relatively thick regions or shoulders, which act to limit lateral movement of the pilfer band with respect to the container by engagement of at least one shoulder with the associated container generally beneath the container locking ring.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2011Date of Patent: July 1, 2014Assignee: Closure Systems International Inc.Inventors: Sohail Sadiq, John Edie, David E. Gevers, William Moll

Publication number: 20140021157Abstract: A closure and container package for pressurized products, such as carbonated beverages, includes a closure comprising a closure cap having a top wall portion, and an annular skirt portion depending from the top wall portion. Features of the closure construction, and selection of the polymer from which the closure is formed, permits the closure to meet sealing, impact resistance, and other performance criteria, with desirably reduced use of polymeric material. Significant cost savings can thus be achieved.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2013Publication date: January 23, 2014Applicant: Closure Systems International, Inc.Inventors: Erin Gren, Daniel Elliott, Patrick Zweigart, John Edie

Publication number: 20120091134Abstract: A tamper-indicating plastic closure, and tamper-evident package are disclosed, wherein the closure includes a pilfer band having a substantially continuous tamper-ring. The tamper-ring extends generally angularly upwardly and inwardly of the closure in a tamper-indicating orientation of the tamper-ring for engagement with a relatively enlarged annular locking ring of the associated container. Notably, the tamper-ring includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced, projections, which preferably comprise relatively thick regions or shoulders, which desirably act to limit lateral movement of the pilfer band with respect to the container by engagement of at least one shoulder with the associated container generally beneath the container locking ring.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2011Publication date: April 19, 2012Inventors: Sohail Sadiq, John Edie, David E.
