  • Patent number: 4936064
Abstract: A fireproof panel for closing structural openings within building structures such as those between rooms, floors, ceilings, and the like through which essential-service hardware such as ducts, pipes, electrical conduit, and the like penetrates, or for providing support for such hardware. The panel comprises a solid matrix of refractory material having reinforcement material embedded therein. Preferably, the reinforcement material is embedded immediately beneath essentially all of at least one of the panel's front and back exterior surfaces. A preferred reinforcement material is a fiberglass material, preferably embedded immediately beneath both the front and back exterior surfaces of the panel. The reinforcement material inhibits fracture of the panel to thereby provide a greater workability in panel installation. The panel can be flat or shaped in accord with its intended function, and openings therethrough to accommodate penetrating hardware can be readily made.

  • Patent number: 4756945
Abstract: A non-combustible blanket material is provided for use in manufacture and construction application to prevent the spread of flames and heat. The blanket material includes a substrate layer made of inorganic fibers formed into a fireproof, porous cloth. In addition, a heat-expandable non-combustible layer is permanently affixed to one side of the substrate layer. This flame retardant layer includes a combination of fireproof manufactured fibrous material of relatively short length and random orientation, heat expandable particles of temperature sensitive material, and a fireproof adhesive for binding the fibrous material and the heat expandable particles together as well as binding the combination to the substrate layer. The heat expandable particles are adapted to increase the thickness of the flame retardant layer when subjected to temperatures substantially in excess of ambient.

  • Patent number: 4622251
Abstract: A non-combustible construction product for sealing a joint formed between adjoined building panels for blocking the passage of flame therethrough including non-combustible, flexibly compressible packing material encased within a porous, non-combustible, flexible, tubular sheath. A method of producing and installing such a construction product is described. Various packing materials including ceramic fibers and a combination of ceramic fibers and heat expandable mineral particles are described.
