  • Patent number: 4554319
Abstract: A process for preparing improved low temperature curable coating compositions comprising (1) forming a solution of an alkoxymethylmelamine and a styrene-allyl alcohol copolymer in a solvent and (2) adding to the solution a solution of a hydroxy-containing resin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 12, 1984
Date of Patent: November 19, 1985
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
Inventors: John F. Heaps, Dennis E. Erickson
  • Patent number: 4517327
Abstract: A process for preparing an improved low temperature curable water dispersed coating compositions comprising (1) forming a solution of an alkoxymethylmelamine and a styrene-allyl alcohol copolymer in a polar solvent and (2) adding to the solution an aqueous solution or dispersion of a hydroxyl-containing resin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 26, 1984
Date of Patent: May 14, 1985
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
Inventors: John F. Heaps, Dennis E. Erickson
  • Patent number: 4278782
Abstract: Terpolymers of a monovinyl aromatic monomer such as styrene, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 allylic alcohol such as allyl alcohol and an ester of a C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 allylic alcohol and a C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 monovalent aromatic acid, wherein the terpolymer preferably contains an average of from about 2 to 4 allylic alcohol units and at least one allylic ester per molecule. The terpolymers are used in surface coatings in blends with acrylic resins and nitrocelluloses. Blends of the terpolymers with polyols and polyisocyanates yield polyurethanes.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 1, 1979
Date of Patent: July 14, 1981
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
Inventors: John F. Heaps, Donald M. Gardner
  • Patent number: 4262099
Abstract: Urethane compositions prepared from terpolymers of a monovinyl aromatic monomer such as styrene, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 allylic alcohol and an ester of a C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 allylic alcohol and a C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 monovalent aromatic acid, wherein the terpolymer preferably contains an average of from about 2 to 4 allylic alcohol units and at least one allylic ester unit per molecule. The compositions are useful as surface coatings, foundry resin binders, molding and encapsulating compounds and in the preparation of rigid and semi-rigid urethane foams.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 1, 1979
Date of Patent: April 14, 1981
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
