  • Patent number: 6311815
Abstract: The present invention comprises a textured separator plate having specific desirable surface characteristics and method of manufacture of said plate. The separator plate in one embodiment is fashioned from steel which is textured by cold working, for example, by a laser-matte rolling process. Preferably, the surface texture is a repeatable bi-dimensional pattern exhibiting a surface profile which is plateau-like in appearance, the texture comprising a regular pattern of curvilinear recesses defining island-like features.

  • Patent number: 5320204
Abstract: A one-way clutch has an inner race, an outer race and a plurality of locking elements that are disposed between the races and that move with respect to one of the races when the clutch is overrunning. The clutch includes at least one end bearing for maintaining concentricity of the races that also adjusts the supply of lubricant inside the one-way clutch hydrodynamically. Several configurations and combinations for the end bearing are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5279399
Abstract: A one-way roller clutch has an inner race, an outer race, a plurality of rollers that are disposed between the races, a phasing cage that pockets each of the rollers individually, and a cage assembly that is keyed to the outer race. The cage assembly anchors a plurality of energizing springs that engage the phasing cage and bias the phasing cage and pocketed rollers toward an engaged position where the rollers are wedged between the races so that one race drives the other.

  • Patent number: 5279400
Abstract: A one-way roller clutch has an inner race, an outer race, a plurality of rollers that are disposed between the races and a cage assembly that is keyed to the outer race. The cage assembly anchors a plurality of energizing springs that bias the rollers toward an engaged position where the rollers are wedged between the races so that one race drives the other. The energizing springs are variable rate springs that produce exponentially increasing spring forces that counteract the centrifugal force of the rollers so as to reduce roller displacement during overrunning and response time for clutch engagement for all operating speeds of the one-way roller clutch.

  • Patent number: 5121999
Abstract: A bearing assembly having inner and outer races with anti-friction elements therebetween and a grease seal at least at one end is provided with a shield between the races for shielding the races, anti-friction elements and grease seal from the entry of dirt, dust and other contaminants.
