  • Patent number: 10017251
Abstract: Systems for restraining palleted cargo within an aircraft are provided. A first system operates to provide vertical and outboard lateral support to cargo at a location where the opposite ends of the system are connected to surfaces that are aligned at different orientations, for example, one end connected to a horizontal floor and the second end connected to a sidewall of the fuselage of the aircraft. A second system operates to provide aft, vertical, and outboard lateral support to cargo upon a pallet proximate to its corner, and at a location where a portion of cargo extends above a stay out zone of the aircraft.

  • Publication number: 20160001870
Abstract: A method of loading cargo into an aircraft is provided. The method includes the steps of sliding a cargo unit through a cargo door opening of an aircraft and into a cargo compartment of the aircraft perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the aircraft. The cargo is slid past and in contact with a first restraint, wherein the first restraint is fixed to a seat track disposed proximate to the cargo door opening, such that a side surface of the cargo unit contacts a portion of the first restraint. The cargo continues to slide into the cargo compartment, and does not contact a side surface of a second restraint that is fixed inboard of the first seat track, wherein a forward facing surface of each of the first and second restraints are disposed along a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 8845249
Abstract: A toolless quick release device for attaching cargo handling system equipment to floor fittings is provided. The quick release device includes a stud, outer retainer, and inner retainer. The stud includes a locking head portion configured to be received in a slotted track. The neck portion of the stud and a center portion of the inner retainer are disposed within a center hole of the outer retainer. The hole of the outer retainer includes a blind hole that receives a ball. The ball may engage one or more recesses in the inner retainer and rotatably fixes the outer portion with respect to the inner portion of the stud. The outer portion further includes an arcuate track that receives a tab from the inner retainer, with the arc length of the track defining the possible relative rotation of the inner retainer and stud with respect to the outer retainer.

  • Patent number: 8585334
Abstract: Some embodiments provide an attenuating cargo restraint device that mounts within the plan-view envelope of the cargo being restrained and that does not extend outboard beyond an allowable amount of attenuation. The device includes a sliding head assembly that can be movably disposed relative to a base. The head assembly includes a cavity covered by an upper housing with the upper housing extending inboard and below a point at which the cargo is restrained. The base includes a complimentary cavity extending inboard from a distal end to a proximal end of the base. These cavities collectively form a housing that incorporates and accommodates the elastic element of the device wholly within the innards of the device, below the point of engagement with cargo, and inboard from the point of engagement so as to locate the elastic element underneath and within the plan-view envelope of the cargo being restrained.

  • Patent number: 6354424
Abstract: A roller tray assembly has a plurality of roller wheels mounted on the floor of a loading platform of a vehicle such as an aircraft or truck. The roller wheels are free to roll either in the loading or unloading directions to permit cargo to be loaded or unloaded on such wheels. Braking rollers are installed on the loading platform floor, the cargo load being moved over such braking rollers. Each braking roller has a central hub supported on unidirectional clutch bearings such that the roller is free to rotate in one direction but locked by the bearings against rotation in the opposite direction. The outer wall of the central hub is covered with an elastomer. The roller has an outer cylindrical wall against which the cargo abuts. The ends of the cylindrical wall have end covers between which a plurality of rods are mounted. These rods abut against the elastomer with sufficient pressure to deform the elastomer. The central hub is rotatably mounted on a fixed shaft.
