    Abstract: A front plate and brush seal assembly for providing a seal between a high pressure area and a low pressure area. An embodiment of a front plate includes a front plate body. The front plate body includes an inner peripheral edge and an outer peripheral edge. A plurality of cuts or slots are provided in the front plate body and extend from the outer peripheral edge of the front plate body toward the inner peripheral edge of the front plate body, such that the plurality of cuts or slots do not extend to the inner peripheral edge, and the plurality of cuts or slots define a plurality of fingers in the front plate body. In an embodiment of a brush seal assembly, the assembly includes a retaining plate that is connected to a front plate.

    Abstract: A seal and seal assembly for providing a seal between an outer shaft and an inner shaft. The assembly includes a seal subassembly disposed between the shafts. The subassembly includes a split carbon ring, a solid outer ring, and a spring mechanism provided between the split carbon ring and the solid outer ring. The carbon ring is radially split into a plurality of segments having splits between ends of adjacent segments. The segments include a circumferential inner radius and a sealing dam on the circumferential inner radius. The solid outer ring includes a sealing face and a plurality of hydrodynamic grooves provided on a radial face. The spring mechanism may be configured to engage a portion of an outer diameter of the split carbon ring and a portion of an inner diameter of the solid outer ring and to urge the split carbon ring radially towards the inner shaft.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided to allow multiple, possibly overlapping, regions of interest within a frequency spectrum to be defined, and managed. Each of these regions of interest may be selected for further testing or identification. Unselected regions are allowed to collapse into narrow bars so as not to interfere with the selected region. Multiple rows are provided to allow for the definition and selection of overlapping regions of interest. Furthermore, in some embodiments aid is provided for identifying the signal type by providing a list of signal type candidates based upon such parameters as region of interest bandwidth, region of interest center frequency and geographic location.

    Abstract: A brush seal device for sealing a high pressure area from a low pressure area. The brush seal device comprises a plurality of bristles arranged annularly. An annular back plate is positioned concentric to and on the low pressure side of the bristles, the back plate having a recess adapted to delay contact of the bristles with the back plate upon application of the pressure across the brush seal device. A flexible annular front plate is positioned adjacent to and concentric with the bristles on the high pressure side of the bristles. This combination of elements helps to reduce uneven wear of the bristles in a brush seal device and, therefore, helps to prolong the life of such a seal.

    Abstract: A brush seal device for sealing a high pressure area from a low pressure area. The brush seal device comprises an annular sideplate having a first side facing the high pressure area and a second side opposite the first side, an annular backplate having a first side facing the low pressure area and a second side opposite the first side, and a plurality of bristles between the second side of the sideplate and the second side of the backplate. The backplate is moveable in a radial direction relative to the annular sideplate and the plurality of bristles extend inwardly from an outer peripheral edge of the sideplate. The brush seal device further comprises a retaining washer between the first side of the backplate and the low pressure area, wherein the retaining washer includes a cavity proximate the first side of the backplate, the cavity having an adjustable pressure therein.
