  • Patent number: 8275788
Abstract: A system for accessing a webpage through natural language communication with a computer comprises a registry database configured to store at least one table the table configured to store associations between a concept in a text string and all natural language variations of the text string and associated concept identifiers, the concept in the text string an variations thereof relating to an object; and a parser interfaced with the database and configured to receive the text string or a variation thereof, the parser further configured to identify the concept represented by the text string or variation thereof and associate the identified concept with the object.

  • Patent number: 8271264
Abstract: A system for natural language communication with a computer, comprising a database configures to store at least one table the table configured to store associations between concepts in a text string and associated concept identifiers; and a builder interfaced with the database, the builder configured to construct a concept defined by a text string by performing a process comprising the following steps: assigning a unique identifier to the concept, breaking the concept into sub-concepts, assigning a unique identifier to each sub-concept, using legal joins to join sub-concepts into higher order sub-concepts, assigning a unique identifier to the higher-order concepts, and repeating the steps until the higher order sub-concepts join to form the concept, and storing the concept, sub-concepts, higher order sub-concepts and unique identifiers in a table in the database.

  • Publication number: 20120214176
Abstract: Methods for detecting the presence or absence of, and for quantifying, one set of cells in a mixed cell population of at least two sets of cells especially Rh positive cells in a mixed population with Rh negative cells, as is found in a fetal maternal hemorrhage (FMH). The magnetic particles coated with anti-D antibodies are reacted with the Rh positive fetal cells in Rh negative maternal blood followed by a specific separation and quantifying technique. Gravitational forces or magnetic forces are used to move reacted magnetic particles to isolate, distinguish and quantify cells differentiated by antigenic composition. Rh positive cell volume is correlated to the volume of the original blood sample as an indication of the number of doses of RhIG needed to be administered to the mother to prevent subsequent Rh immunization.

  • Publication number: 20120214175
Abstract: Method for detecting a material of interest, usually an antibody or an antigen on a red blood cell, in a liquid, by observing the potential antigen/antibody reaction products in a novel way. Reaction products are deposited on a magnetic substrate and will exhibit different properties depending upon whether or not the antigen/antibody reaction has taken place. An antigen/antibody reaction product adheres tenaciously to itself and the substrate while the deposit of any unreacted magnetically tagged material is weakly adhering and easily disrupted and dislodged under a disruptive force which would be insufficient to dislodge the reacted deposit. This difference in cohesive property provides the means by which a positive result is distinguished from a negative result.

  • Patent number: 8214366
Abstract: A system for knowledge representation in a computer that can enable unrestricted natural language communication with a computer, comprising a database configured to store at least one table, the table configured to store associations between concepts in a text string and associated concept identifiers; and a builder interfaced with the database, the builder configured to construct a table that represents knowledge defined by a text string, the text string comprising (n) operands and (n?1) operators, by performing a process comprising the following steps: combining concepts in the text string into first order sub-concepts according to precedence defined by the operators, combining the first order sub-concepts into higher order concepts according to the precedence defined by the operators, repeating the steps until the higher order sub-concepts join to form a concept that represents the entire text string, and storing the concept, first order sub-concepts, and higher order sub-concepts in the database.

  • Patent number: 7370047
Abstract: System and method for filtering and sorting data. The system includes data management system for displaying a data table having a plurality of rows and columns of data cells. Each of the columns in the data table has an associated filter cell whereby the user may input filter criteria. In response to receiving the filter criteria in the filter cells, a data management system filters and sorts each of the data cells in the data table. In one embodiment of the invention, the data management system records the order in which the user inputs the filter criteria and generates a sorting priority list that defines a sorting priority for the data cells. The data management system sorts the data cells using the sorting priority list. Furthermore, in one embodiment of the invention, the data management system displays the data cells that satisfy the filter criteria contiguously and interleaved between those data cells that do not satisfy the filter criteria.

  • Patent number: 5272318
Abstract: A system which requires scanning of identification means associated with a patient and a proposed treatment in order to determine a code necessary to open or render operational a treatment means is disclosed. Because the necessary code is only displayed if the patient and treatment means have been scanned and the information has been audited to verify that it is correct and complete and has been automatically recorded in the scanner's memory, the system ensures that a record of the transaction is made and that only the proper patient is given a particular treatment.

  • Patent number: 5256376
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for use with a centrifuge to analyze reactants. The apparatus includes at least one cuvette having at least one chamber. The chamber has a radially outward wall which provides a base upon which reactants can be pelleted when the device is rotated about a centrifugal axis. Each cuvette includes one or more openings for introducing fluids to the cuvette and includes a channel positioned adjacent to the radially outward wall for removing fluids from the chamber. Pressure is applied to the chamber to force fluids therefrom, through the channel. A hold down device is also provided through which fluid and/or pressure may be passed with respect to the cuvette. The invention also provides a method for determining the existence and degree of agglutination of reactants in a first fluid suspension and contained in a single reaction vessel using a photodetector.

  • Patent number: 4787222
Abstract: A system is disclosed for positive identification between a patient and a blood unit to be administered to the patient incorporating a combination lock which positively prevents access to the blood unit unless its code matches that of the patient. An alphabetic code is assigned to the patient and is set into the combination lock at the time the blood unit is removed from the blood bank. Setting of the code is achieved by the technician without necessity of external tools or mechanical skill. The combination lock has several alphabetic coded indicia dials which may be set at any orientation with respect to several locking rings. Once the combination is set, a manual clamping force exerted on the structure serves to lock the indicia rings to the associated locking ring to set the code.
