  • Patent number: 5924331
Abstract: A cable control system is constructed to isolate a controlled member from uncontrolled motion upon sudden breakage or disconnection of cables in the system. The control system has an input mechanism connected to the controlled member by a control circuit which includes an input pulley and an output pulley system. The output pulley system has first and second quadrants which are rotatable about a common axis of rotation. The quadrants have a pivot connection to permit relative pivoting motion between the quadrants. A spring connected between the quadrants urges them to rotate toward each other. The cables are connected to respective quadrants and to the input mechanism to cause conjoint rotation of the quadrants about the common axis in response to corresponding rotation of the input pulley. Tension in the cables holds the spring in an extended position. An output lever is pivotally mounted for free pivoting motion relative to the quadrants.

  • Patent number: 5911390
Abstract: A pilot-operated lever assembly for adjusting control surfaces of an aircraft including a bobweight for creating inertia forces that simulate a force feedback due to aerodynamic forces on the control surfaces. The bobweight effect is variable as a function of airspeed and other operating variables. An actuator for adjusting the geometry of the lever assembly creates a variable bobweight effect. The mass of the actuator acts as a bobweight mass.

  • Patent number: 5868037
Abstract: A cable tension regulator capable of receiving an input force and transmitting an output force for use in mechanical control. The cable tension regulator comprises a pivot rod including a connector for operatively connecting the pivot rod to a support for pivoting of the rod relative to the support and a pulley mounted on the pivot rod for receiving cable. A cross bar having an opening for receiving the rod is capable of sliding longitudinally of the rod, and is constructed to hold ends of the cables. The regulator further comprises a spring having a first end held in a longitudinal position relative to the pivot rod and a second end operatively engaging and bearing against the cross bar for urging the cross bar to move on the rod in a direction generally away from the pulley to maintain tension in the cables. The regulator pivots about the transmission axis upon application of the input force.

  • Patent number: 5782436
Abstract: A disconnect assembly which is positioned between respective sections of the torque bar for control column controls and permits alternative connection or disconnection of the sections of the control torque bar. This disconnect structure can be included on any or all of the control column torque bars for operating any of the control surfaces of the aircraft. The torque tube disconnect assembly includes a lever rotatably attached to one side of the first torque tube section which has a pair of recesses and a central recess for receiving a pin mounted on a swivel bar. The opposite end of the swivel bar has an interconnect apparatus for engaging the end of the second torque tube section immediately adjacent the first torque tube section. The swivel bar has a pair of arms on either side thereof each of which rotatably supports a separate articulated link for each such arm. The opposite end of each such link is attached to an axle on a mount fixedly attached to said first torque tube section.
