  • Patent number: 8136496
Abstract: A valve rotator for use in an internal combustion engine. The valve rotator including a plurality of retention members, each able to removeably and rotateably couple the stationary housing to the rotating body. The plurality of retention members are defined by a plurality of recesses allowing each of the plurality of retention members to deflect with respect to the stationary housing. The retention members allow the rotating body to be removed from the stationary housing without the need for permanently damaging the stationary housing (e.g. during rebuilding). Additionally, the retention members may be incorporated on housings that have undergone heat treatment processes without rendering the housings susceptible to cracking or damage.

  • Patent number: 6138624
Abstract: A tappet socket assembly for a rocker lever assembly or other lever assembly includes a retainer, a tappet socket, and a ball bearing. The rocker lever is adapted to be rocked about a pivot axis and includes a cylindrical opening or bore which partially receives the ball bearing. The retainer includes a cage provided by a plurality of legs and a cylindrical side wall insert. The side wall is secured within the cylindrical bore and press fitted therein by the ball bearing. The ball bearing exerts radially outward force on the retainer to secure the ball bearing and retainer to the rocker lever. The tappet socket includes a spherical concave recess that closely receives the ball bearing to provide a ball and socket joint and a flat engaging face for transferring the force of the rocker lever to a valve crosshead. The tappet socket is retained in the cage between the legs.

  • Patent number: 5515821
Abstract: A method and apparatus for inhibiting leakage of lubricating oil into an intake manifold and cylinder of a diesel engine during idling incorporates a seal press fit onto one end of an intake valve stem adjacent a tappet assembly coupled in driving relationship with the valve. In an illustrative form the seal comprises an annular ring sized to the valve stem and having a flexible, circumferential flange adapted for sealing engagement with a valve spring retainer attached to the valve. The flange of the seal engages an inner annular, chamfered surface on the valve spring retainer, the chamfered surface being located adjacent the one end of the valve stem.
