Patent number: 8943024Abstract: A method and system can be used to read and obtain data from a variety of media, regardless of the application used to generate the backup media. The component parts of a file may be read from a medium, including content and metadata pertaining to a file. These pieces of content and metadata may then be stored and associated. To avoid duplication of data, pieces of content and metadata may be compared to previously stored content and metadata. Furthermore, using these same methods and systems the content and metadata of a file may be associated with a location where the file resided. A database which stores these components and allows linking between the various stored components may be particularly useful in implementing embodiments of these methods and systems.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2004Date of Patent: January 27, 2015Inventors: Daniel John Gardner, Maurillo Torres

Patent number: 8874408Abstract: A low cost method of measuring parameters of a product in the field, such as the coating thickness on an individual vehicle, sends the measurement data set to a common pocket-size device also carried by the inspector, labels the data set, and transmits the data set to a remote computer to produce a product condition report. Alternately, the data can be transmitted directly to a remote buyer. The method is a low cost, practical and efficient because the inspector in the field only requires two pocket-size wireless devices. Inspectors are freed from carrying relatively bulky or heavy computers in the field. Furthermore, the method employs devices already owned by a numerous inspectors and the method requires no proprietary or expensive equipment. The remote computer permits the efficient addition of further information to create detailed reports that are organized or compiled and transmitted to customers.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2011Date of Patent: October 28, 2014Inventor: John Gardner Pfanstiehl

Patent number: 8823345Abstract: This invention uses new switching regulator structures to split single magnetic loops into multiple magnetic loops, with linked opposing magnetic fields, to cause a cancelling effect, resulting in a much lower overall magnetic field. This results in lower EMI. In one embodiment, synchronously switched transistors are divided up into parallel topside transistors and parallel bottomside transistors. The topside transistors are positioned to oppose the bottomside transistors, and bypass capacitors are connected between the pairs to create a plurality of current loops. The components are arranged to form a mirror image of the various current loops so that the resulting magnetic fields are in opposite directions and substantially cancel each other out. Creating opposite current loops may also be achieved by forming the conductors and components in a figure 8 pattern with a cross-over point.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2012Date of Patent: September 2, 2014Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventors: Leonard Shtargot, Daniel Cheng, John Gardner, Jeffrey Witt, Christian Kueck
