Patent number: 9047922Abstract: A method and system for providing autonomous event logging and retrieval for failure analysis. In one implementation, storage device firmware monitors and records events (e.g., storage device errors and/or failures) to the storage device flash in substantially real time from power on of the storage device to power off. Additionally, diagnostic data relating to an event, including a time stamp and storage device environmental conditions are recorded. The logged event data may be utilized to streamline failure analysis by determining whether the storage device failed and if so, when the storage device failed and what the conditions of the storage device were at the time of the failure. Such information may be used for failure, warranty, integrator, and/or troubleshooting analysis.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2012Date of Patent: June 2, 2015Assignee: SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY LLCInventors: Brian John Higley, Bradley John Gill

Publication number: 20150025772Abstract: A position indicator device (10) comprising a first array (12) of uniformly spaced-apart pulse induction affecting targets fixed in position relative to a second array of uniformly spaced-apart pulse induction affecting targets (14). The spacing between the centres of adjacent targets of the first array (12) differs from that of the second (14). The device further comprises a first set (18) of pulse-induction coils comprising a plurality of such coils and a second set (20) of pulse-induction coils comprising a plurality of such coils. The coils of the first set (18) are fixed relative to those of the second set (20). Those of the first set (18) are located adjacent to the first array (12) of targets. Those of the second set (20) are located adjacent to the second array (14) of targets. The targets (the said first and second arrays together) and the coils (the said first and second sets together) are movable relative to one another.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 1, 2014Publication date: January 22, 2015Applicant: GILL CORPORATE LIMITEDInventors: Michael John GILL, Samuel William BIRTWELL

Publication number: 20150013472Abstract: An ultrasonic flowmeter comprising an elongate duct through which fluid flows when the flowmeter is in use. Ultrasonic transducers are arranged respectively to transmit and receive ultrasonic pulses propagated through such fluid when the flowmeter is in use. Electronic circuitry is connected to the transducers to provide a measure of the time delay between emission of an electronic pulse from one of the transducers and reception of the pulse by the other of the transducers. The circuitry is constructed to enable an output to be provided which is dependent upon that delay and which is indicative of the rate of flow of fluid through the duct. The transducers are located respectively at opposite ends of the duct and are arranged to transmit and receive ultrasonic pulses propagated through the fluid substantially parallel to the duct from one end thereof to the other.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 11, 2014Publication date: January 15, 2015Applicant: GILL CORPORATE LIMITEDInventors: Michael John GILL, Samuel William BIRTWELL, Oliver Stewart BLACKLOCK

Patent number: 7807054Abstract: The present invention relates to a chromatography column that removes the longitudinal load from the column tube altogether and transfers it to a yoke and stanchion arrangement situated around but external to the column tube. By using the yoke/stanchion system, the central adjuster can be used to move the top end into and out of the housing. Thus, when internal pressure is applied to the column, the tube experiences no longitudinal load. Additionally, the yoke and stanchion design allows for complete removal of the end from the tube without cumbersome disassembly. Moreover, the yoke provides a place to retain the end while the tube is being filled, emptied, cleaned or repaired.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2008Date of Patent: October 5, 2010Assignee: Millipore CorporationInventors: John Graham Dunkley, Neil Francis Frazer, Melvyn John Gill

Patent number: 7317367Abstract: A micro-switch comprises at least one coil (22) of elongate electrically conductive material mounted on the support means (16). A movable actuator portion (20) of electrically conductive material is attached to the support means (16) so as to be movable against resilient means (10) of the micro-switch and so as to be adjacent to the coil (22). Pulse inductive circuitry (30, 32, 34, 36, 43a, 52, 54) is connected to the said at least one coil (22), and constructed to switch from one condition to another when the actuator portion (20) is moved against the force of the resilient means (10) beyond a predetermined threshold point as indicated by pulsoinductive monitoring effected by the pulse inductive circuitry (30, 32, 34, 36,43a, 52, 54). As a result of this construction, there are no physical contacts which are brought into and out of contact with one another to effect the change in the electrical condition of the micro-switch.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2002Date of Patent: January 8, 2008Inventor: Michael John Gill

Patent number: 7052831Abstract: The present invention provides a method and device for conducting a rapid in vitro enzyme immunoassay test for the direct and qualitative detection of two or more viral antigens from specimens of symptomatic patients. The method for immunoassay of viral antigens is performed on a membrane. Non-immunological capture of viral antigens takes place by absorption onto the membrane. Captured antigen binds to a detection reagent that includes a label conjugated to a specific antibody. The test is a differentiated test such that two or more viral antigens may be distinguished from each other in a single test. The invention also includes a kit for performing an assay in accordance with the method of the present invention, wherein the kit comprises the device of the present invention.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2000Date of Patent: May 30, 2006Assignee: Becton Dickinson and CompanyInventors: Robert C. Patent number: 6693420Abstract: Control apparatus comprising at least one electrically-conductive target portion (12). A position sensor (14) in the form of a pulse induction device is arranged in proximity with the said at least one electrically-conductive portion (12) to provide a signal indicative of a position attribute of that portion. Relative movement is possible between the target portion (12) and a coil portion (14a) of the position sensor (14). Control means (16) are connected to receive such a signal from the pulse induction device (14) and to respond in dependence upon that signal. The invention extends to such a position sensor (14) itself.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2001Date of Patent: February 17, 2004Inventor: Michael John Gill
