The catheterization tray can include a structural configuration for maintaining a sterile field about a patient throughout the catheterization procedure, the sterile field including at least a portion of the tray. The structural configuration of the tray can provide a sterile side of the tray designated for a first person performing sterile steps of the catheterization procedure in the sterile field. The structural configuration of the tray can also provide a non-sterile side of the tray designated for either the first person or a second person performing non-sterile steps of the catheterization procedure outside the sterile field. The contents for the catheterization procedure can include a perineal care kit, two or more pairs of gloves, and a drainage system including a catheter.

Abstract: Disclosed is a urine-sampling kit including, in some embodiments, a sampling-port access device, a package of hand sanitizer, a pair of sterile gloves, and a packaged antiseptic wipe, towelette, or swabstick. The sampling-port access device includes a barrel ending with a tip configured to fluidly connect the sampling-port access device to a urine-sampling port of a catheter assembly, and a hollow needle coaxial with the barrel. The needle is fluidly connected to but directed away from the tip of the barrel. Contents of the urine-sampling kit including the sampling-port access device, the package of hand sanitizer, the pair of sterile gloves, and the packaged antiseptic wipe, towelette, or swabstick are packaged in accordance with step-by-step instructions for aseptic urine sampling. A catheterization-and-urine-sampling kit including at least some of the foregoing components is also disclosed, as is a method for aseptic urine sampling with the urine-sampling kit and the catheterization-and-urine-sampling kit.

The catheter assembly includes a urinary catheter, drainage tubing, and a connector fluidly connecting the urinary catheter to the drainage tubing. The connector includes a urine-sampling port. The sampling-port access device includes a tip at an end of a barrel configured to fluidly connect the sampling-port access device to the urine-sampling port of the catheter assembly. Each of the tip of the sampling-port access device and the urine-sampling port has a complementary fastening means for—fastening to the other of the tip of the sampling-port access device and the urine-sampling port. Each of the complementary fastening means ensures proper mating of the tip of the sampling-port access device and the urine-sampling port for aseptic urine sampling. In addition to various urine-sampling systems such as the foregoing, methods of use are also disclosed.
