  • Publication number: 20070122266
Abstract: An assembly and method for controlling thermal stresses within ceramic-based articles when subjected to high temperatures while supported by a metallic article. The assembly includes a first body formed of a metallic material and having oppositely-disposed first and second surfaces, and a second body formed of a ceramic-based material and supported by the first body from the first surface thereof. The first and second bodies are located in a hot gas path such that the second body and the first surface of the first body are directly impinged by flowing hot gases. The assembly further includes a substantially uniform pattern of fins protruding from the second surface of the first body, and/or an interface structure between the first and second bodies that positively retains the second body to the first body and thermally insulates the first body from the first body.

  • Publication number: 20050111969
Abstract: Nozzle segments are secured to a retention ring against circumferential rotation by anti-rotation pins extending generally axially between the outer bands of the nozzle segments and the retention ring. Retention plate segments overlie the ends of the pins, preventing axial removal thereof. To remove a selected nozzle segment, inner diameter retention plate segments and selected retention plate segments are removed, the latter exposing the ends of the pins for axial withdrawal. Upon removal of a predetermined number of pins, the nozzle segments adjacent the selected segment are displaced away from the latter segment to open a gap between the selected segment and adjacent segments whereby the selected segment can be removed in an axial direction.

  • Publication number: 20050092899
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for detecting a relatively wide dynamic range of intensity values from a beam (e.g., scattered light, reflected light, or secondary electrons) originating from a sample, such as a semiconductor wafer. In other words, the inspection system provides detected output signals having wide dynamic ranges. The detected output signals may then be analyzed to determine whether defects are present on the sample. For example, the intensity values from a target die are compared to the intensity values from a corresponding portion of a reference die, where a significant intensity difference may be defined as a defect. In a specific embodiment, an inspection system for detecting defects on a sample is disclosed. The system includes a beam generator for directing an incident beam towards a sample surface and a detector positioned to detect a detected beam originating from the sample surface in response to the incident beam.

  • Publication number: 20050053677
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of extracting biologically active compounds from botanic material, the method stabilising the botanical material from oxidative degradation. This preserves the biologically active compounds in the material. In the main embodiment, the plant material is mixed with a solution containing at least one acid and one antioxidant. It has been found that the oxidative degradation of the biologically active compounds in plant material can be prevented, slowed or stopped by the invention.
