  • Patent number: 5784830
Abstract: Hand-held devices for removing fish hooks disclosed have top and bottom members connected at an intermediate pivot to move in a rocker-type action between two positions. A first embodiment has U-shaped top and bottom front portions that nest together in one position with slots arranged to engage a hook and remove different types of hooks and different sizes of hooks. A second embodiment has flat inclined sections with slots arranged with one movable relative to the other to form a pocket to enclose a hook for removal. A third embodiment combines the features of the first two at opposite ends of a common intermediate pivot.Fish hook removing devices disclosed have a high degree of versatility for a wide range of hook sizes, hook types, for a wide range of fish sizes, may be used with a minimum of effort, and a minimum damage to the fish.

  • Patent number: 5421120
Abstract: Apparatus for removing a fish hook comprising two hinged together jaws having congruent slot shaped openings in the ends thereof and an aperture close to the closed end of the slot in the bottom jaw and longitudinally aligned therewith. In operation, the jaw ends are placed together and positioned so that the open slotted openings embrace the bottom of the fish hook to exert pressure thereon to back the hook out of the flesh. Following extraction of the prong of the hook the jaws are separated, resulting in a rotation of the hook to as to introduce the prong into the aperture in the lower jaw, thus isolating the prong from further contact with anything it could penetrate during subsequent removal of the hook from the site, such as the fish's mouth.

  • Patent number: 5366278
Abstract: A retention device and system for securing a disc, such as a wheel cover, to a wheel rim is disclosed. A first embodiment of the retention device includes a fastening member with a turned upper lip that hooks over the wheel rim, an inturned flexible section that extends along the flange of the wheel, a flexible base portion snap-fits to the wheel and subjected to a pressing force that defeats the spring action created in a bend of the base portion which in turn locks the disc retention device to the wheel. An upturned lower flange of the lower arm fits into an end of the connecting member which is attached thereto by means of a retaining member. The retaining member has an upper bight portion that extends through the upper lip of the connecting member and a pair of side legs extending perpendicular to the plane of the upper bight portion. The connecting member has two inturned folds which face opposite each other at open ends and a top arcuate edge.
