  • Patent number: 10732023
Abstract: A system for weight measurement for an aircraft having a weight on wheels threshold between a flight mode and a ground mode includes a weight on wheels sensor arrangeable on a landing gear assembly of the aircraft, and a computing device receiving first detected data from the sensor related to strain on the landing gear assembly. The computing device calculates a rate of change of the strain over time to determine when the landing gear assembly reaches the weight on wheels threshold. The system also measures aircraft gross weight in a static condition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 28, 2017
Date of Patent: August 4, 2020
    Assignee: SIKORSKY AIRCRAFT CORPORATION
Inventors: Michael G. Mastrianni, John H. Judge
  • Patent number: 10451500
Abstract: A measuring system and method that computes and analyzes sensor data fused with multiple mechanical and thermally induced strain measurements is provided. Further, the measuring system and method realizes physics-based relations between sensor readings due to mechanical and thermal sources by optimally de-coupling a total strain into its mechanical and thermal components. The measuring system and method also auto-tunes coefficients involved in the optimal de-coupling equations using sensor specification data and previous system test results for initialization.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 22, 2015
Date of Patent: October 22, 2019
    Assignee: SIKORSKY AIRCRAFT CORPORATION
Inventors: Michael G. Mastrianni, Payman Sadegh, Mark W. Davis, John H. Judge

  • Patent number: 9849996
Abstract: A method of engine electrical load shed control includes receiving an accessory load indicator corresponding to an accessory load of an engine. A request for acceleration of the engine is detected. One or more electrical buses are depowered based on the accessory load indicator exceeding a shedding threshold and detection of the request for acceleration of the engine.

  • Patent number: 7106217
Abstract: A method for flying in a degraded visual environment comprising the steps of collecting environmental data, processing the data and fusing the data together into a combined input output. The output is fed into a head down display, head mounted or heads up display and, preferably to a fly-by-wire vertical take-off and landing capable vehicle wherein the fly-by-wire system makes automatic adjustments to the helicopter.

  • Patent number: 7091881
Abstract: A flight control system includes a primary flight display having a hover display which facilitates operations in DVE conditions. The hover display includes a radar altitude display, heading drift symbology and lateral drift symbology which assists pilots in the detection of drift, which is common in DVE situations and to provide the pilot with a salient cue pertinent to the approach to hover and landing.
