  • Patent number: 5467615
Abstract: An air conditioning unit including a basepan upon which is mounted an indoor section in communication with the space to be conditioned. The indoor section includes an indoor heat exchanger and means for circulating air to be conditioned in heat exchange relation with the indoor heat exchanger. Also mounted on the basepan is an outdoor section in communication with ambient air and including an outdoor heat exchanger and a compressor. A partition forms a part of the basepan and divides the air conditioning unit to separate the indoor section from the outdoor section. The partition is provided with a partition opening therethrough. Refrigerant carrying lines extend between the indoor section and the outdoor section through the partition opening. An elongated section of insulating material circumferentially encloses the refrigerant tubes in the region in which they pass through the partition opening.

  • Patent number: 5461879
Abstract: A condensate disposal system for an air conditioning unit of the type where moisture removed from inside air being cooled and dehumidified is conducted to a condensate collector in an outside section of the air conditioner. The system includes a condensate slinger which extends into the condensate collector to pick up and distribute condensate collected therein into contact with the units condenser coil. The condensate slinger is of the type including a truncated conical cup having an upper and lower end and a sloping conical wall extending from the upper to the lower end and surrounding an interior volume. The cup includes a bottom closing the lower end which has passages therein to allow condensate to flow into the interior volume. The passages in the bottom of the condensate slinger comprise circular openings extending from an inner surface to an outer surface thereof.

  • Patent number: 5392613
Abstract: A room air conditioner of the type having an indoor section and outdoor section which are supported by a basepan and separated by a partition. The indoor section includes an indoor fan and an evaporator. The cold evaporator condenses moisture from the air to be cooled. Means are provided to collect the condensate and to conduct it along a path from the indoor section, through an opening in the partition, at basepan level, to the outdoor section. The opening in the partition has a given height from the basepan which is sufficient to allow condensate flow, and a given width. A hood is provided adjacent to the opening on the outdoor side of the partition wall which extends from the top of the opening downwardly a distance less than the given height of the opening. The hood completely encloses the given width to thereby define a lower edge under which water or air must pass to pass through the condensate opening.

  • Patent number: 5251461
Abstract: The baffle for preventing the recirculation of discharged air into the intake grille of a packaged terminal air conditioner is provided with means for attaching it to the grille structure without fasteners. A plurality of flexible fingers with snap latches on the ends thereof are inserted between a pair of spaced ribs on the grille, with the fingers being flexed inwardly during the insertion process and then flexing outwardly to engage the snap latches with a front edge of the vertical ribs when the baffle is in place.

  • Patent number: 4573328
Abstract: A plastic sleeve assembly and an air conditioning unit are disclosed for mounting the air conditioning unit in a through-the-wall application. The sleeve assembly includes flange members with transverse ribs therebetween. The flanges have screw holes therethrough with a J-nut about the inner screw hole, and standoffs about the outer screw holes, such that the air conditioning unit, having an L-shaped sealing flange thereon, when inserted into the sleeve and fastened thereto, causes the standoff on the flange to be in compression and not tension as a fastener secures the air conditioner in the sleeve.
