Extension of the first actuator accompanied by retraction of the second actuator causes the first member to roll in a first roll direction. Retraction of the first actuator accompanied by extension of the second actuator causes the first member to roll in a second roll direction. A third actuator connects a second portion of the first member to the second member. Extension of the third actuator accompanied by retraction of both the first and second actuators causes the first member to pitch in a first pitch direction. Retraction of the third actuator accompanied by extension of both the first and second actuators causes the first member to pitch in a second pitch direction.

A blocker member is rotatable between first and second positions. A biasing member is operatively coupled to the face gear and the blocker member to bias the blocker member in a biasing direction. A sliding member selectively disengages the blocker member to allow the blocker member to rotate in the biasing direction. A lever arm is operatively coupled to the sliding member such that the lever arm is in the disengaged and engageable positions when the sliding member engages the blocker member in the first and second positions, respectively.

    Abstract: The disclosed qudits interchange the roles of linear and nonlinear in the nonlinear LC resonators formed by existing superconducting qudits. The disclosed qudits include a nonlinear capacitor (e.g., a material that forms charge density waves, a material that forms spin density waves, a ferroelectric material, an incipient ferroelectric material, or a quantum paraelectric material) coupled to a linear or nearly linear inductance (e.g., a high temperature superconductive coil, an array of Josephson junctions in series, etc.). The disclosed qudits can operate at significantly higher temperatures than existing quantum computing technologies due to reduced quasiparticle poisoning and collective quantum behavior that enhance thermal robustness. The disclosed qudits are also easier to manufacture uniformly at scale than existing qubits.
