  • Patent number: 5058034
Abstract: This application discloses a system that optimizes a neural network by generating all of the discrete weights for a given neural node by creating a normalized weight vector for each possible weight combination. The normalized vectors for each node define the weight space for that node. This complete set of weight vectors for each node is searched using a direct search method during the learning phase to optimize the network. The search evaluates a node cost function to determine a base point from which a pattern more within the weight space is made. Around the pattern mode point exploratory moves are made which are cost function evaluated. The pattern move is performed by eliminating from the search vectors with lower commonality.

  • Patent number: 5049376
Abstract: A cosmetic powder bar composition is disclosed. The composition, substantially oil free, comprises calcium sulfate dihydrate, mica or mica-containing composite material and polyethylene. A unique process for making this composition is also set forth. In this process a powder phase composition and a liquid phase composition are separately prepared. The two compositions are contacted to form a slurry. The slurry is placed in molds and heated to remove free water therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4814165
Abstract: A solid hydrated stick for topical application containing emulsified water soluble ingredients and volatile emollients. The stick is a solid emulsion comprising by weight from 15% to 40% of a cyclic silicone, 2% to 15% of an oil, 2% to 20% of a wax, 2% to 7% of polyethylene glycol sorbitan beeswax, 10% to 40% water, and 0.1% to 40% of a cosmetically acceptable functional ingredient. The polyethylene glycol sorbitan beeswax acts as an emulsifier and contributes to the rigidity of the stick, while the silicone serves as an emollient to impart a smooth, buttery feel when the composition is applied to the skin.

  • Patent number: 4583014
Abstract: A superconducting generator with a normally conducting armature winding is provided with a rotor having a superconducting field winding and a superconducting damper winding with the damper winding on a quadrature axis in relation to the field winding and located radially interior of the field winding to result in minimal spacing of the field winding and the armature winding and still achieving a high degree of fault worthiness.

  • Patent number: 4414200
Abstract: A powder stick composition for topical application, and particularly a powder stick containing an anti-perspirant as an active ingredient. The stick is produced by incorporating an active ingredient, a finely divided inert filler, and a fatty alcohol with a siloxane at an elevated temperature to form a slurry. The slurry is then molded into stick form at atmospheric pressure, and the molded stick is dried to evaporate a major portion of the siloxane. The resulting stick is firm, has a uniform distribution of the active ingredient throughout the cross section and has excellent pay-off characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4337859
Abstract: A method of producing a cosmetic product containing an integrally molded powder cake. The product includes a casing having an open top enclosed by a cover, and the casing defines a cavity to contain the powder cake. In fabricating the product, the cover is closed and the casing is inverted and a slurry composed of an inert powdered material, a fatty alcohol and a vaporizable siloxane is introduced into the cavity through an opening in the bottom of the casing. On cooling, the slurry is solidified to form a cake, and subsequently the cake is dried to evaporate the siloxane carrier. The opening in the bottom of the casing can be enclosed by a backing member.

  • Patent number: 4336561
Abstract: A superconducting transformer having a winding arrangement that provides for current limitation when subjected to a current transient as well as more efficient utilization of radial spacing and winding insulation. Structural innovations disclosed include compressed conical shaped winding layers and a resistive matrix to promote rapid switching of current between parallel windings.

  • Patent number: 4334546
Abstract: A cosmetic pencil for use in the topical application of eye shadow, eye liner, lipstick, or the like. The pencil comprises an outer sheath or barrel and an inner core of a cosmetic composition. The barrel is composed of polyethylene and contains from 5% to 20% by weight of hydrogenated castor oil. The cosmetic pencil can be readily sharpened through use of a conventional pencil sharpened, and the addition of the hydrogenated castor oil provides the barrel with increased toughness, easier sharpening characteristics, as well as substantially reducing stress cracking of the barrel at elevated temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4184089
Abstract: A multiple plane spoke structure for supporting a superconducting rotor assembly of a dynamoelectric machine. A plurality of generally radially extending support spokes interconnect an ambient temperature rotor portion with a cryogenic temperature rotor portion. The spokes are secured in tension between the two rotor portions and are displaced one from another along the axial length of the rotor member. The spokes are preferably grouped together in sets of at least two each with at least one of the spokes being angularly displaced with respect to the remaining spokes. The proper placement of these groups of spokes is determined by comparing the maximum deflection of the rotor assembly at the operational frequency to the maximum allowable deflection which can be tolerated under steady state conditions. Each spoke projects through radial openings in the core of the field winding structure.

  • Patent number: 4039052
Abstract: Inner and outer brake shoes are swivel-mounted on the arms of a yoke. When the yoke is rotated, the shoes move concurrently toward and away from inner and outer braking surfaces of a brake drum. The swivel mounting facilitates optimum seating engagement with the braking surfaces and in cases where the drum is warped, serves to maximize braking area and minimize wear. Stops positioned near opposite ends of the shoes limit their circumferential movement. An electric puck or a hydraulic actuator is used to rotate the yoke.
