  • Patent number: 7687776
Abstract: A gas imaging system for remotely detecting gas emissions by passive images of infrared radiation includes an optical system having a field of view. The optical system has a lens, an optical filter system for filtering light passed through the lens, and a photosensitive array located at the focal plane of the optical system to produce multi-spectral infrared image data of a scene under observation. A multi-spectral image processing system is configured for processing the image data produced by the photosensitive array to detect hazardous gas emissions and to discriminate against infrared radiation emitted by false alarm sources. Some embodiments may be configured for flame detection. Other embodiments may be configured for gas and flame detection.

  • Patent number: 4355610
Abstract: The pedal effort required to change the setting of a governor (13) of an engine increases sharply with increased engine speed. Booster controls have been provided in the art for applying a boost force (F.sub.B), additive to an operator input force (F.sub.L), for opposing the force (F.sub.S) of a governor spring (42) to thus reduce pedal effort at high engine speeds. The improved booster control (15,15a) herein includes an actuating chamber (53,53a) and a control arrangement (51,51a) for controlling fluid pressure in the chamber (53,53a) when the setting of the governor (13) is changed by the operator and in a predetermined ratio to the operator's input force. The booster control (15,15a) has wider application wherein a boosting force (F.sub.B) is desired to supplement an input force (F.sub.L) for controlling movement of a member (23) having an opposing force (F.sub.S) applied thereto.

  • Patent number: 4282838
Abstract: PCT No. PCT/US79/00128 Sec. 371 Date Mar. 2, 1979 Sec. 102(e) Date Mar. 2, 1979 PCT Filed Mar. 2, 1979 PCT Pub. No. WO80/01821 PCT Pub. Date Sept. 4, 1980A system for shutting-down an engine upon overspeeding thereof comprises an engine-driven shaft (19) having a flyweight mechanism (27) connected thereto and engageable with a reciprocally mounted trip shaft (32). The trip shaft (32) is, in turn, engageable with a pivotal latch (33) which is adapted to normally hold a spring-loaded control piston (44) in an inactive first position for permitting normal engine operation. A cable (12) connects the control piston (44) to a flapper valve (11), pivotally mounted in the intake manifold (13) of an engine. The manifold (13) is adapted to be closed upon tripping of the latch (33) to disengage the control piston (44) to permit its movement to an activated second position when the engine speed exceeds a predetermined maximum speed.

  • Patent number: 4149507
Abstract: An improved fuel-air ratio control apparatus for a supercharged engine having a governor means connected to a fuel adjusting member and a supercharger for supplying air through an intake manifold is disclosed. The control apparatus is directly engageable with the fuel adjusting member and is responsive to intake manifold air pressure and engine oil pressure. The apparatus is inoperative to restrain the adjusting member during start-up of the engine and remains so until such time as a predetermined intake manifold pressure is attained, at which time the control apparatus moves to a position which permits the metering of engine oil therethrough to permit normal governor operation and proportional increases of fuel with air pressure increased. The control apparatus thereafter automatically limits the fuel supplied to the engine, and therefore engine torque rise, during a decrease in engine speed caused by loading on the engine to thereby limit any undesired exhaust smoke.

  • Patent number: 4053405
Abstract: A fuel filtering system comprises a case having a cartridge-type filter disposed therein, along with a separator which defines a reservoir. Fuel, such as diesel fuel, is adapted to normally enter an inlet to the case, flow through the filter and thence to an outlet of the case for engine consumption purposes. A valve member, having a specific gravity less than water but greater than that of the fuel, is movably mounted adjacent to the outlet. When the level of water in the reservoir exceeds a predetermined level, the valve member will float on the water and move upwardly to at least partially close-off communication of fuel to the outlet to thus adversely affect engine performance whereby the vehicle operator is alerted to the water-in-fuel problem. In a first embodiment of this invention, such valve member comprises a tubular member mounted exteriorly on a tube defining the outlet therein whereas in a second such embodiment the valve member comprises a spherical ball movably mounted in the tubular member.

  • Patent number: RE31154
Abstract: A variable rate frictional drive coupling is provided between a drive shaft and a driven member. The drive coupling will dampen torsional vibrations from the drive shaft and will transmit driving torque from said shaft to the driven member. The coupling comprises a cam and leaf springs positioned in such a way that as the shaft deflection increases, the load increases and the moment arm point of contact between the cam and the leaf springs changes such that no natural frequency is produced. The frictional forces between the leaves of the leaf spring change inversely to the spring force required to drive the driven member.
