    Abstract: DNA segments encoding the Erwinia herbicola enzymes geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (GGPP) synthase, phytoene synthase, phytoene dehydrogenase-4H, lycopene cyclase, beta-carotene hydroxylase, and zeaxanthin glycosylase, DNA variants and analogs thereof encoding an enzyme exhibiting substantially the same biological activity, vectors containing those DNA segments, host cells containing the vectors and methods for producing those enzymes, zeaxanthin and zeaxanthin diglucoside by recombinant DNA technology in transformed host organisms are disclosed.
