Publication number: 20240110361Abstract: This disclosure addresses the problem of preventing sediment laden water (“sediment slurry”) resulting from hydraulic collection of nodules from the seabed from entering the riser and lift system that carries the nodules to the surface as a slurry. An example includes collecting nodules from the seabed by hydraulic suction, separating the nodules utilizing an inverse hydrocyclone.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2022Publication date: April 4, 2024Applicant: Deep Reach Technology, Inc.Inventors: Robert D. Blevins, John Halkyard, Michael Rai Anderson, James Wodehouse, Samual Holmes

Patent number: 10030349Abstract: An undersea anchor that includes a frame that is fixed to the seafloor by one or more pile anchors, for example grouted pile anchors. The frame is configured to permit it to function with one or more seabed drills to allow the pile anchor(s) to be installed at an angle relative to horizontal so the pile anchors can take horizontal and vertical loads.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2015Date of Patent: July 24, 2018Assignee: Lockheed Martin CorporationInventors: John Halkyard, Jonathan B. Machin
-
Patent number: 9353501Abstract: Novel subsea excavation apparatus and methods that exert force between a subsea anchor point and an excavator using a subsea actuator. In some examples the subsea actuator is attached to an anchor point on the seabed and the excavator directly. In other examples, a guide frame is anchored to the seabed to provide anchor points fixed relative to the seabed and the subsea actuators are attached to the guide frame and the excavator. In further examples, the subsea actuators can be attached to the excavator through a carrier frame or other excavator guides rather than directly to the excavator.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2014Date of Patent: May 31, 2016Inventors: John Halkyard, Eric Jackson, Jonathan Bruce Machin

Patent number: 6652192Abstract: A heave suppressed, floating offshore drilling and production platform comprises vertical columns, lateral trusses connecting adjacent columns, a deep-submerged horizontal plate supported from the bottom of the columns by vertical truss legs, and a topside deck supported by the columns. The lateral trusses connect adjacent columns near their lower end to enchance the structural intergrity of the platform. During the launch of the platform and towing in relatively shallow water, the truss legs are stowed in shafts within each column, and the plate is carried just below the lower ends of the columns. After the platform has been floated to the deep water drilling and production site, the truss legs are lowered from the column shafts to lower the plate to a deep draft for reducing the effect of wave forces and to provide heave and vertical motion resistance to the platform.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2000Date of Patent: November 25, 2003Assignee: CSO Aker Maritime, Inc.Inventors: Qi Xu, Phillip A. Abbott, John Halkyard
