Patent number: 7745750Abstract: A dimmer switch for controlling the amount of power delivered to an electrical load from an AC power source provides a night light feature on a user interface adapted to be provided in an opening of a traditional-style faceplate. The user interface comprises a frame, a pushbutton actuator, and an intensity actuator. Actuations of the pushbutton actuator change an internal switch mechanism between an open position and a closed position. A source of illumination, mounted internally to the dimmer switch and offset longitudinally from the switch mechanism, illuminates the pushbutton actuator and an elongated slot of the intensity actuator when the lighting load is off to provide the night light feature. The dimmer switch further comprises a plurality of lenses operable to redirect the light from the source of illumination towards the pushbutton actuator and the elongated slot.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2007Date of Patent: June 29, 2010Assignee: Lutron Electronics Co., Inc.Inventors: John Hewson, Matthew J. Ochs, Jennifer S. Wilkinson

Patent number: 7391297Abstract: The invention regards a system and method for using a handheld programming device to configure a lighting control system wirelessly. In one embodiment, at least one device configured with a processing section is installed in the lighting control system. A communications receiver that is operable to receive a signal from the handheld programming device is also installed in the lighting control system, wherein the signal includes an instruction for configuring the lighting control system. Further, the signal is wirelessly sent from the handheld programming device to the communications receiver, and the instruction is transmitted from the communications receiver to a device in the system. The instruction functions to configure the lighting control system.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2006Date of Patent: June 24, 2008Assignee: Lutron Electronics Co., Inc.Inventors: Audwin W. Cash, Rishi Raj Kumar, Christopher J. Rigatti, Dragan Veskovic, John Hewson
