  • Publication number: 20060102136
Abstract: Fuel management system for enhanced operation of a spark ignition gasoline engine. Injectors inject an anti-knock agent such as ethanol directly into a cylinder. It is preferred that the direct injection occur after the inlet valve is closed. It is also preferred that stoichiometric operation with a three way catalyst be used to minimize emissions. In addition, it is also preferred that the anti-knock agents have a heat of vaporization per unit of combustion energy that is at least three times that of gasoline.

  • Publication number: 20060075991
Abstract: A method for reducing required octane number and a spark ignition gasoline engine system with hydrogen-enhanced knock resistance. The method for reducing required octane number of gasoline needed to prevent knock includes the addition of hydrogen or hydrogen-rich gas containing carbon monoxide to gasoline. Octane number can be improved by 5 or more for a hydrogen energy fraction of 10%. The spark ignition gasoline engine system includes a spark ignition gasoline engine and a source of gasoline and hydrogen or hydrogen-rich gas. Apparatus is provided to supply the gasoline and the hydrogen or hydrogen-rich gas to the engine at a varying hydrogen or hydrogen-rich gas to gasoline ratio selected both to prevent knock and to ensure a desired level of combustion stability throughout a full range of engine operation. The engine system may be normally aspirated or boosted; the compression ratio may be high such as greater than 11 or below 11, and EGR may be added.

  • Publication number: 20050274104
Abstract: Pollution control apparatus. An exhaust aftertreatment unit is fitted to the exhaust of an internal combustion engine and a fuel reformer provides hydrogen rich gas in an optimal way to the aftertreatment unit to regenerate the aftertreatment unit. It is preferred that the hydrogen rich gas be provided only to a portion of the aftertreatment unit at any time to regenerate that portion. Stored hydrogen may be used.

  • Publication number: 20040066353
Abstract: A method of mounting an antenna to a support, the method including the steps of: a) mounting first and second clamps to the support; b) tightening the first clamp around the support; c) mounting the antenna to the first clamp; d) after step c), moving the second clamp along the support away from the first clamp into engagement with the antenna; and e) tightening the second clamp around the support. The antenna is suspended from the first clamp by gripping the antenna below its upper end; lifting the upper end of the antenna over the first clamp mounted at an elevated position; and lowering the upper end of the antenna onto the first clamp so that interlocking male and female parts of the clamp and the antenna couple together. The clamp has three or more clamping members and three or more tighteners which can each be adjusted to tighten together a respective pair of adjacent clamping members so as to tighten the clamp around the support. The clamp can be provided in kit form.

  • Patent number: 6460352
Abstract: Apparatus and method for controlling the composition of the atmosphere within a refrigerated container during the storage and/or transportation of perishable and/or respiring produce in which carbon dioxide and ethylene (and other evolved hydrocarbons) are removed from the container atmosphere by adsorption, the adsorptive materials being regenerated with ambient air.

  • Patent number: 6408640
Abstract: An apparatus for refrigerating goods in a container storing a cryogenic fluid and means for discharging the fluid into the container in order to reduce the temperature therein, characterized in that the storing means is adapted to operate at atmospheric pressures but not at pressures substantially greater than atmospheric. Such a system provides a single and inexpensive means for refrigerating goods in a transportable container, which may be divisible into smaller compartments, and may also be provided with eutectic plates to act as a thermal “buffer” whenever the container/a compartment is opened for loading/unloading.

  • Publication number: 20020066448
Abstract: Apparatus for heating a refrigerated container comprising a source of a compressed gas and a vessel in thermal communication with the interior of the container and containing an absorbent material for the gas, control means being provided to allow gas to flow from the source to the vessel to be adsorbed by the adsorbent material therein when heating of the container is desired.

  • Patent number: 6236367
Abstract: A radiating element for dual polarised operation in a linear antenna array is disclosed. The radiating element is a dual polarised radiating patch element consisting of a ground plane, a lower patch, an upper patch and parasitic elements. The lower patch and upper patch are stacked above the ground plane in a spaced apart relationship. The parasitic elements lie in the same plane as the lateral edges of the lower patch. Supports are used to hold the patches and the parasitic elements in a spaced apart relationship. The parasitic elements are fed from a central area of the lower patch by microstrips. The ground plane has apertures which are of a dumbbell shape to achieve the same effective length as long apertures. Orthogonally disposed strip type driven elements span across the central portions of the apertures and the length of these strips is selected to achieve the desired matchings.

  • Patent number: 5729983
Abstract: A container (10) for the storage of perishable foodstuffs is chilled by means of a liquefied gas comprising a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen which when totally vaporised has an oxygen concentration of between 15 and 22%, the remaining concentration being substantially of nitrogen. Such an atmosphere is breathable, and hence avoids the problems associated with non breathable chilling atmospheres.
