Abstract: A mine roof support comprising a roof engaging canopy, a floor-engaging means, a pair of shields pivotally secured to the canopy and extending downwardly and rearwardly in side-by-side relation over the floor-engaging means, a quadrilateral linkage securing each shield to the floor-engaging means and extensible strut means for adjusting the height of the canopy so arranged that the canopy may tilt about a transverse horizontal axis and a fore and aft axis to engage the roof, the shields being capable of providing differing height settings to accommodate canopy tilt about the fore and aft axis.

Abstract: This invention concerns a mine roof support of the kind comprising a floor beam, a roof engaging canopy and a plurality of extendible struts such as hydraulic jacks supporting the canopy from the floor beam. The invention comprises the provision of a flap pivotally connected along one edge of the canopy such that outward pivotal movement thereof may cause it to engage the canopy of an adjacent support. Hydraulic jack or equivalent means are provided acting between the canopy and the flap to urge the flap outwardly. The flap provides effective sealing of the gap between adjacent canopies in a line of roof supports and also enables each canopy to be positioned accurately between adjacent supports during advancing movement of the support.

Abstract: A mine roof support arranged for propulsion over a mine floor by means of an advancing jack wherein the advancing jack is arranged to exert an inclined force on the support of which one component is parallel to the floor for propelling the support along the floor and the other component lifts or tends to lift the support from the floor thereby reducing frictional engagement with the floor.
