  • Patent number: 6553639
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a leaf seal for use between rotating components comprises forming corrugations within a metallic strip and feeding the corrugated strip into a seal guide. The corrugated strip is then pressed into the guide by an angled ram such that the corrugations lie at an acute angle to the perpendicular axis. The strip is then secured in a seal carrier, the free ends of the corrugations thus forming the angled sealing leaves of a leaf seal.

  • Publication number: 20030050511
Abstract: A process is provided for the manufacture of liquid polysulfide polymers. In particular, the process allows for making the liquid form of the polysulfide polymer directly and eliminates the need to first make a solid polysulfide polymer and then convert it to a liquid.

  • Publication number: 20030003004
Abstract: In a vacuum pump of the regenerative type or including a regenerative section in which a rotatable vertical shaft is supported by upper and lower bearings, a lubricating system for lubricating the upper bearing comprising an axial bore extending along the shaft and communicating at its upper end with at least one oil hole in alignment with the upper bearing, the lower open end of the axial bore extending in to a shaft reservoir located in a sump for containing lubricating fluid, the arrangement being such that centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the shaft will cause the lubricating fluid in the shaft reservoir to pass along the axial bore as a thin film towards the oil hole and hence to the upper bearing, in which at least one port is formed in a wall of the shaft reservoir to permit the passage of lubricating fluid therethrough from the sump in a controlled manner dependent upon the head of lubricating fluid in the sump above the port.

  • Patent number: 5238940
Abstract: Methods to prepare intermediates for the conjugation of active ingredients to hydrophilic carriers are described. The polyhydroxylated carriers are first derivatized to convert the hydroxyls to leaving groups and then reacted with an alkylene diamine in the presence of a reducing agent. The resulting derivatized carrier can then be coupled to substituents containing carboxyl groups in the presence of dehydrating agents.

  • Patent number: 5203549
Abstract: An improved apparatus is used to feed sheet material to a feed station of a collating conveyor. At the feed station of one embodiment of the invention, a first feed drum engages a leading edge portion of the sheet material and feeds the sheet material toward the collating conveyor. A first feed drum feeds the sheets along an arcuate path to a secondary drum. The secondary feed drum feeds the sheet material from another holder to a secondary conveyor. The secondary conveyor is inclined to a horizontal at an angle lesser than the arcuate path. A printer assembly prints indicia on the sheet material. The printer assembly directs ink toward opposite sides of the sheet material along paths which are skewed at an acute angle relative to the vertical so that particles of ink do not fall back onto ink jet nozzles and clog the nozzles.
