Publication number: 20220379023Abstract: An apparatus and method for delivering liquid to a subject using a pumping device of a flow control apparatus. The method includes recognizing a pump set including a liquid container with a volume of liquid mounted to the flow control apparatus whereby the pump set is positioned to be acted on by the pumping device to deliver aliquots of liquid through the pump set. Operation of the pumping device is initiated to draw a prescribed volume of the liquid from the liquid container for a duration of time. A single aliquot of the volume of liquid is delivered from the liquid container to the subject. Operation of the pumping device is paused for a predetermined period of time before delivering another single aliquot of the volume of liquid from the liquid container to the subject.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 20, 2022Publication date: December 1, 2022Inventors: Wayne BIERMANN, Laura BRAMES, John HOLSTE, Gary WALDHOFF, Paul TRELFORD

Patent number: 9020419Abstract: Wireless relay modules for networked communications between a medical device and a remote monitoring device via wireless relay networks and/or internet-accessible wireless communications networks. The wireless relay module includes a receiver, a first transmitter coupled to the wireless relay network, a second transmitter coupled to the internet-accessible wireless communication network, a controller and a display. The controller is coupled to the first and second transmitters, and controls the wireless relay module to select one of the transmitters for transmitting medical device data over one of the two respective networks. The controller generates an alarm signal and stores storing wirelessly-received medical device data in a memory of the wireless relay module upon detecting a changed characteristic for a power source of the wireless relay module. The controller also generates an alarm upon detecting a change in a characteristic of a signal transmitted by the medical device.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2012Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Assignee: Covidien, LPInventors: Robert B Gaines, John Holste, Kenneth M Breitweiser, Joel D Wiesner

Publication number: 20150073338Abstract: An enteral feeding pump for mounting a pump set for enteral delivery of fluid through the pump set to a subject including a housing capable of receiving at least a portion of a pump set. A pumping device contacts the pump set when the pump set is received by the housing so the pumping device acts on the pump set to produce fluid flow in the pump set for enteral delivery of fluid to a subject. A sensor is connected to the housing for sensing acceleration of at least a portion of the housing caused by an impact to the housing and producing a signal in response to the sensed acceleration. A control circuit in the housing is programmed to perform an operation after the sensor produces a predetermined sequence of signals.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2014Publication date: March 12, 2015Inventors: Gary Waldhoff, Robert Gaines, John Holste

Publication number: 20140348054Abstract: A wireless relay module for networked communications between a series of medical devices and a remote monitoring device. An interface circuit coupled to each medical device communicates with the wireless relay module via a wireless relay network. The relay module communicates with the remote monitoring device over one or more internet-accessible wireless communication networks, and includes a receiver coupled to the wireless relay network, transmitter(s) for the wireless relay network or other wireless relay networks, other transmitters for the one or more Internet-accessible wireless communications networks; and a controller. The controller determines a status of the one or more internet-accessible wireless communications networks. When the status indicates that at least one of the internet-accessible wireless communications network is available, the appropriate transmitter is selected for the transmitting medical device data over the available internet-accessible wireless communications networks.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 19, 2014Publication date: November 27, 2014Inventors: Robert Gaines, Joel Wiesner, John Holste, Kenneth Breitweiser
