Publication number: 20240148452Abstract: Surgical systems and methods for robotically-assisted insertion of a stem implant into a cavity of a bone. A manipulator includes a robotic arm that supports an end effector which detachably receives the stem implant. A navigation system includes a localizer to track poses of the bone and the end effector. Controller(s) coupled to the manipulator and the navigation system obtain a surgical plan defining a planned relationship between the stem implant and the bone. Based on the tracked poses and the surgical plan, the controller(s) control the manipulator to enable movement of the end effector and the stem implant to facilitate insertion of the stem implant into the cavity.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 16, 2024Publication date: May 9, 2024Applicant: MAKO Surgical Corp.Inventors: John Timperley, Ross Crawford, Jonathan Howell, Matthew Hubble, Matthew Wilson, Matthew Thompson, Graham Gie

Patent number: 11872438Abstract: A portable, handheld exercise device comprises a spherical outer shell with multiple parallel handles mounted to the outer surface thereof containing a rotating mass therein. An inner shell located within is spaced from but attached to the outer shell. A gyroscopic energy-generating structure (GEGS) is located within the inner shell. The GEGS comprises a rotating disc or a rotating mass configured to simulate a rotating disc. The rotating disc or a rotating mass is powered to spin around a rotational axis orientated in a preselected orientation to the multiple parallel handles. When the one or more handles of the exercise device are held by an individual the spinning characteristics of the rotating disc or mass creates a force against the user's hands. An internal or external controller allows the user to vary the spinning characteristics of the spinning mass and the level and intensity of the resultant exercise provided to the user in counteracting the forces created.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2021Date of Patent: January 16, 2024Inventors: John Hubble, Steven Christopher Polaski

Publication number: 20220117632Abstract: A multifunctional microdermabrasion wand provides to the wand operator the capability to perform microdermabrasion of a skin surface while simultaneously delivering one or more skin treatment serums. The operator can also simultaneously deliver ultrasonic energy through the wand to the skin surface. The operational controls for the multifunctional wand provide for operator control of the quantity delivered of one or more serums. The system also provides operator control of the ultrasonic energy delivered by the wand and a feed back control system to maintain a preset energy delivery level. The wand allows for conducting microdermabrasion, serum infusion and ultrasonic energy delivery to the skin surface in any combination simultaneously as well as serially.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2021Publication date: April 21, 2022Inventors: Douglas W. Walker, John Hubble, Brendalie Acosta

Patent number: 10278733Abstract: A method is described for brightening tattoos or pigmented images formed below the epidermis of an individual. A skin treating device having a treatment tip with a crystalline abrasive material permanently bonded thereto is moved across the skin surface covering the tattoo. The procedure results in the bonded crystalline abrasive material removing a portion of the surface of the epidermis of the skin area over said tattoos or pigmented images, resulting in a brightening of colored or black line tattoos and a sharpening of the lines in the image. Simultaneously applying a vacuum to the skin surface during the procedure and the application of skin serum during or after the procedure enhances the results.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2016Date of Patent: May 7, 2019Assignee: Altair Instruments, Inc.Inventors: Douglas W. Walker, Brenda A. Acosta, John Hubble

Patent number: 8365923Abstract: A method of separating at least one carbon nanotube having a desired diameter and/or chirality from a mixture of carbon nanotubes having different diameters and/or chiralities is provided. A calixarene of formula (I): wherein n?4; X is PO3H2, Ra—PO3H, SO3H, or Ra—SO3H; Y is Rb, OH, or ORb; and Ra and Rb are independently selected from the group consisting of optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted arylene alkyl and optionally substituted alkylene aryl is combined with the mixture of carbon nanotubes in an aqueous solvent to produce an aqueous supernatant containing the carbon nanotube(s) having the desired diameter and/or chirality. The aqueous supernatant containing the carbon nanotube(s) is then separated from a residue comprising the remaining carbon nanotubes of the mixture.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2009Date of Patent: February 5, 2013Assignee: The University of Western AustraliaInventors: Colin Llewellyn Raston, Lee John Hubble
