  • Publication number: 20240121588
Abstract: The systems and method disclosed herein optimize the deregistration of user equipment (UE) from the 5GC. For example, when the UE operates in single-registration mode, for AMF 3GPP access registration with drFlag attribute set to false (or to be absent) in UDM/UDR, a “new attribute”, singleRegIndication, is defined. The AMF sets the singleRegIndication value to “NO_INDICATION” when there is no N26 interface connection to MME. UDM will not instruct HSS to cancel MME (and SGSN/VLR) if there is an old AMF 3GPP registration for which “NO_INDICATION” or “DEREGISTER_SN” is set as the singleRegIndication value (i.e. the old AMF was already registered with the single registration). Otherwise, the AMF sets the singleRegIndication value to “DEREGISTER_SN” when the AMF has established a N26 interface connection to the old MME. UDM can instruct HSS to cancel the MME (and SGSN/VLR).

  • Publication number: 20240098059
Abstract: One aspect can provide a system and method for enforcing a single-domain registration of a user equipment (UE) roaming across different provider networks. During operation, the system can receive, at a subscriber-management entity (SME) from a first service node within a first provider's network, a location-update message associated with the UE. The system can identify a second service node within a second provider's network with which the UE has a previous registration and query a subscriber-information database to determine whether a single-domain-registration feature is enabled at the SME for the UE. In response to determining that the single-domain-registration feature is enabled, the system can send a location-cancellation message to the second service node to cause the second service node to cancel the previous registration of the UE and register the UE at the SME.

  • Publication number: 20230189194
Abstract: 5G provides for interworking with the 4G/LTE networks, which provides for mobility of user equipment between the 5G and 4G/LTE networks. Mobility from 5G to 4G/LTE requires deregistering user equipment from the 5G core network (5GC) by communicating a deregistration notification from the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) to the 5GC. Systems and methods disclosed herein provide for an optimized deregistration process through avoidance of redundant deregistration notification traffic injected into the 5G network by utilizing 4G/LTE connectivity information to determine whether or not to inject deregistration notifications into the 5G network.

  • Patent number: 10932120
Abstract: Examples relate to determining mobile network class of service. In one example, a computing device may receive, from a mobility management entity (MME), a request from a device that requested access to a network operated by the MME, the request specifying an account identifier and location data that corresponds to the device; based on the location data, determine that the device is roaming; based on the account identifier and in response to the determination that the device is roaming, identify a class of service (CoS) for the device; and provide the MME with response data including the identified CoS.

  • Patent number: 10542413
Abstract: In some examples, a computer-readable medium includes instructions. The instructions may be executable by a processing resource to maintain a default roaming restrictions database that stores default roaming restriction attributes specific to roaming classes of service defined by a network operator. The default roaming restriction attributes may be specific to the roaming classes of service independent of mobile country code and mobile network code. The instructions may also be executable by the processing resource to perform a lookup into the default roaming restrictions database to identify a particular default roaming restriction attribute specific to a particular roaming class of service defined by the network operator.

  • Patent number: 9338654
Abstract: A method and corresponding apparatus and system of controlling access to communication services by a roaming wireless device are described. The method includes receiving a request for roaming wireless device service information related to a roaming user and determining which services the user has access to for the requesting system, if the user is determined to have access to the requesting system. The method also includes transmitting user service information concerning the services to which the user has access. The apparatus includes a memory, a communication system, and a processor. The memory stores: (1) user information including a class of service (COS) identifier and (2) COS restriction information. The processing system, coupled with the communication system and the memory, generates a reply message based on comparing information in a service request message received by the communication system with the stored information in the memory.

  • Patent number: 8972455
Abstract: System and method for traffic surge control. A control message may be received for registering or managing a device in a network. A measure of a number of current control messages already being processed in the network may be retrieved. A condition may be retrieved, from among a plurality of conditions, that corresponds to the retrieved measure of current control messages, each condition defining different rules for discarding a control message of the same type and corresponding to one of a plurality of measures of current control messages. Based on whether or not the retrieved condition is met, the control message may be processed to register or manage the device or discarded.

  • Patent number: 8799490
Abstract: Systems, methodologies, media, and other embodiments associated with provisioning an Internet Protocol (IP) core network services multimedia subsystem (IMS) are described. One exemplary system embodiment includes a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) logic operably connectable to components including, a user database, an application server (AS), and a permissions database. The HSS logic may be a component of an IMS that facilitates communications between application servers and users. Thus, the HSS logic may be configured to receive an AS-to-user-database-interface-message (AUDIM) and to selectively update the permissions database based, at least in part, on the AUDIM. The user database may store user data concerning IMS users and the permissions database may store information for controlling AUDIM initiated interactions between an AS and the user database.

  • Publication number: 20080268839
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention pertain to reducing a number of registration termination messages in a network for cellular devices. According to one embodiment, information is received at a server indicating that a first network entity associated with the network is providing a service to a cellular device. Information is received at the server indicating that a second network entity associated with the network is providing the service to the cellular device. Logic associated with the server is executed to determine whether to send a registration termination message to the first network entity. The logic enables the server to send a registration termination message to one of a plurality of network entities that communicates with the server without requiring the server to send a registration termination message to another of the plurality of network entities.
