  • Patent number: 4087509
Abstract: Described is a method for bending rigid extruded theromoplastic-resin shapes without significant deformation of the cross-sectional configuration of the shape. The shape is intimately mated between first and second dies cooperatively configured to define the curvature to which the shape is to be bent. The shape, as mated with the dies, is heated by means of a heating fluid sufficiently to cause the thermoplastic material to lose a substantial portion of its tensile strength but insufficiently to cause the thermoplastic material to melt. Heating is continued as the dies are progressively moved into mating engagement with the extrusion over the extent of the shape to be bent. Thereafter, before the dies are moved apart, the bent shape is cooled sufficiently to restore rigidity to the shape.

  • Patent number: 3977819
Abstract: Apparatus for bending rigid extruded thermoplastic resin shapes without significant deformation of the cross-sectional configuration of the shape is described. The bending apparatus includes a rigid die member which has a convex die surface configured to mate intimately with a portion of the cross-sectional configuration of the shape to be bent prior to and during the bending process. The convex die surface defines the desired curve to which the shape is to be bent. A flexible die is configured to mate intimately with substantially the remainder of the cross-sectional configuration of the shape. Heating fluid passages are provided through both the rigid and flexible dies for application of a heating fluid, preferably saturated steam where the shape is made of rigid vinyl, directly to the shape for conditioning of the shape for bending.

  • Patent number: 3967424
Abstract: A window comprises a translucent pane on which is mounted a rigid mounting member for attaching the window to an opening in a boat hull and the like. The mounting member is bent in the shape of the pane, but it is sufficiently smaller so that a mounting flange is defined by the pane itself between the mounting member and the edge of the pane.
