  • Patent number: 5741108
Abstract: An apparatus for removing material from a drum or barrel includes a conveyor for transporting drums one at a time through an emptying station at which a housing having an open end is arranged for sealing engagement with an annular rim of a drum bounding an opening through which material is to be withdrawn. The emptying station additionally includes a mechanism adapted to lift drums from the conveyor and place same in sealing engagement with the housing, a scraper supported to movably project from within the housing through its open end and into the opening of a sealingly engaged drum for scraping material from the walls thereof and conveying such material outwardly of the drum into the housing for subsequent discharge therefrom through a discharge opening. The discharge opening communicates with an inlet opening of an axially elongated material conveyor serving to transport material from its inlet opening to a discharge opening removably communicating with a material receiver.

  • Patent number: 4957222
Abstract: This relates to a barrel or drum scraper to facilitate the complete emptying of a barrel or drum. Barrels and drums which are filled with a liquid containing solids and the like frequently have the solids settle out and become deposited on the inner surface of the barrel wall and the barrel bottom. Thus when you pour out the liquid content of a barrel filled with such a product, there remains in the barrel the solids which have adhered to the body and bottom. This relates to a scraper and barrel handler which will effect the removal of the solids from the walls of the barrel. This is particularly true when the barrel is used to store contaminated materials. In one form, the apparatus includes a barrel support which accurately positions the barrel, after which the scraper assembly moves down into the barrel.

  • Patent number: 4696599
Abstract: The present invention relates to a secure landfill and to a method of operating a hazardous waste secure landfill characterized by a substantial reduction in the amount of leachate. The amount of leachate is minimized by maintaining a substantial amount of the atmospheric moisture collected within the confines of the fill separate from the waste material in the fill and removing such uncontaminated moisture from the fill site in an uncontaminated condition. The present landfill arrangement also facilitates the progressive incremental closing and permanent sealing of portions of the landfill while the remainder of the fill remains in active use.
