Abstract: A method and apparatus for supplying information stored remotely to an appliance via a mobile device are provided. A client computer extracts the network path bookmark information from a predetermined directory in the client computer, and transmits the network path bookmark information to a server computer via a first communication network. The mobile device, which is connected to the server computer via a second communication network, requests the at least one network path bookmark information, and the server computer transmits the requests network path bookmark information to the mobile device. The mobile device then initiates the process by sending instructions to a computer system via a network. The instructions designate information to be processed using at least one bookmark as well as the appliance to which the information is to be applied. According to the instructions, the information is retrieved and converted to a document format suitable for the appliance.

Abstract: A method which allows a user through a portable device to print documents which are remotely stored is disclosed. The user designates a first document among the documents to be printed as an instruction in a portable device. Such an instruction is sent from the portable device to a local printer via a portable device communication port in the local printer, where it is further passed to a host computer connected to the local printer and capable of accessing the documents. According to the instruction, the host computer retrieves the first document and subsequently prints out the retrieved first document on the local printer.

Abstract: A method for transferring data across a firewall is provided. According to the invention, a host computer which can access the data sends a poll periodically to a target computer for a presence of a data transfer instruction in the target computer. If the data transfer instruction is present in the target computer, in response to the poll, the target computer sends a response to the host computer to inform the host computer of at least part of the instruction. Based on the response from the target computer, the host computer transmits the data across the firewall to the target computer according to the part of the instruction.
