  • Patent number: 5143615
Abstract: Apparatus and method for dewatering radioactive waste slurry solids. The apparatus includes a vacuum pump for applying a vacuum to a suitable flexible filter and collapsible membrane combination in which the slurry solids are contained so that the slurry solids are compressively dewatered when the vacuum is applied. The apparatus further includes a container for suitably storing the resulting dewatered slurry solids.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 25, 1991
Date of Patent: September 1, 1992
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Inventors: Bryan A. Roy, Gregory F. Boris, John J. Campbell, John G. Funk, David J. Wozniak, James D. Gibson, Robert M. McCauley

  • Patent number: 4142600
Abstract: A vehicle includes a pair of hydrostatic motors for selectively driving the front wheels thereof. Connection and disconnection between a pump and such motors is provided by means including electrical switches actuated by appropriate clutches of the transmission of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4104933
Abstract: Planet gears of a planetary gearing system for a vehicle drive wheel are mounted on a carrier for orbital motion around a motor-driven sun gear and transmit drive at reduced speed to a ring gear which turns the wheel hub. Each planet gear is fastened to the carrier through a bearing and axle pin having ends which extend through support bores in the carrier. Lubricant is maintained around the carrier and each axle pin has a lubricant passage with an outlet directed toward the bearing and with an inlet facing in the direction of orbital motion of the axle pin to cause such motion to force lubricant into the passage. Longitudinal movement of all axle pins and also angular motion of all axle pins relative to the supporting carrier is prevented by a single unitary retainer element secured to a surface of the carrier and having edge portions which extend into a linear slot in the sidewall of each axle pin.

  • Patent number: 4092878
Abstract: A planetary gear system within a vehicle wheel has a sun gear at the wheel axis driven by a fluid motor and further includes a ring gear secured to the wheel rim. Planet gears, engaging both the sun gear and ring gear, are mounted on a carrier which is revolvable as the planet gears orbit around the sun gear while transmitting drive from the motor to the wheel with a speed reduction and a corresponding torque amplification. The carrier is not tightly restrained in either the radial or axial direction enabling positional self-adjustment to relieve stress concentrations at gear teeth. Limits for the axial and radial play of the floating carrier are fixed by positioner means defining an annular groove into which the radially innermost edge of the carrier is loosely received, thrust bearing means such as thrust pins or annular thrust rings being situated within the groove at each side of the carrier edge.

  • Patent number: 4069886
Abstract: A vehicle such as a motor grader includes a hydrostatic auxiliary front wheel drive system which utilizes implement system pressurized fluid flow to drive a pair of fixed displacement hydraulic motors, such motors being drivingly connected to cause rotation of the front wheels. A pilot operated series-parallel valve in combination with a flow divider allows the motors to be driven in series or in parallel. A directional control valve is selectively responsive to operator control, and clutch actuation is accomplished automatically by directing a controlled portion of system fluid to such clutches to overcome the normal spring bias thereof.

  • Patent number: 3960061
Abstract: A mounting arrangement for a hydraulic motor having a pivotal swash plate and an axially extending drive shaft includes a support structure having an open ended bore formed therein to receive the hydraulic motor and a mounting bracket journalled to the drive shaft of the hydraulic motor. The mounting bracket has a pair of spaced apart lugs which extend toward the hydraulic motor and pivotally engage the swash plate, and an annular pilot portion disposed coaxial with the drive shaft and piloted into a pilot bore formed in an end wall of the support structure opposite to the open end of the bore with the mounting bracket being secured to the end wall.
