    Abstract: The present invention provides a stabilized thermoplastic molding composition comprising an aromatic polycarbonate resin and from about 0.1 to about 40 percent, based on the weight of the composition, of a silver sodium zirconium phosphate antimicrobial compound of the formula (I) NaxHyAgzZr2(PO4)3 ??(I) wherein the composition has a melt volume rate according to ASTM 1238 within about 40% of the melt volume rate of a comparable composition not containing the antimicrobial compound. The composition of the present invention may find use in preparing useful articles, such as medical articles, by any method of thermoplastic processing including injection molding and extrusion.

    Abstract: A transparent antimicrobial thermoplastic molding composition is disclosed. The composition contains aromatic polycarbonate resin and 0.01 to 3.8 of an antimicrobial compound conforming to formula (I) AgaM1bM22(PO4)3??(I) wherein M1 is at least one ion selected from the group consisting of alkali metal ion, alkaline earth metal ion, ammonium ion and hydrogen ion, M2 a tetravalent metal selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr and Sn, and where a and b are positive numbers where a+mb=1 where m is a valence of M1, the percent being relative to the weight of the polycarbonate. The composition is suitable for molding articles having good appearance and surface qualities.

    Abstract: It was surprisingly found that a thermoplastic molding composition which contains polycarbonate and polyalkylene terephthalate resins at a particular weight ratio therebetween is rendered improved impact strength and hydrolysis resistance upon the incorporation of an additive amount of high melt flow high density polyethylene therewith. The molding composition of the invention comprise about 20-90 percent of polycarbonate resin, 80-10 percent of polyalkylene terephthalate (preferably PET) and about 3 to 5 percent of a high density polyethylene resin having a specific gravity of 0.94-0.97 and melt flow of 1 to 80 gm/10 min. as determined in accordance with ASTM D 1238.
