  • Patent number: 4749550
Abstract: A method of inhibiting corrosion of a metal surface in an aqueous system comprising introducing corrosion inhibiting cations into the aqueous system. The corrosion inhibiting cations are selected from the group comprising cations of yttrium and cations of the metals of the lanthanum series which metals have atomic numbers from 57 to 71 inclusive. The cations may be introduced in the form of water soluble salts. Alternatively the cations may be releasably bound by ion exchange to a substrate and the ion-exchanged substrate introduced into the aqueous system.

Assignee: The British Petroleum Company p.l.c.
Inventors: Brian P. F. Goldie, John J. McCarroll
  • Patent number: 4695663
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for producing aromatic hydrocarbons from a feedstock containing a major proportion of methane. The feedstock, in the vapor phase and in the absence of oxygen, is brought into contact with an aluminosilicate at a temperature from 650.degree. C.-800.degree. C. The feedstock may optionally contain ethane.

  • Patent number: 4600571
Abstract: Catalysts as prepared by impregnating a carbon support with a halogen-containing compound of Ru, reducing the Ru to metal with hydrogen, and then depositing an alkali metal and a barium compound. The catalysts may be used for ammonia production.

  • Patent number: 4510071
Abstract: Methanol is converted to synthesis gas over a catalyst comprising Pd, an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or a lanthanide on a carbon having defined surface area characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4476250
Abstract: Methanol is produced by passing CO and H.sub.2 over a supported Pd catalyst containing an alkali metal alkaline earth metal, or lanthanide promoter and supported on a carbon support with defined surface area characteristics.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4474607
Abstract: A corrosion inhibitor comprises particles of an inorganic oxide having cations of yttrium or cations of one or more metals of the lanthanide group chemically bound to the particles by ion-exchange. The cations are released by ion-exchange with other cations and not by the water solubility of the corrosion inhibitor. The corrosion inhibiting particles may be prepared by contacting particles of the inorganic oxide with an aqueous solution containing the required cations. Alternatively, the particles of the inorganic oxide may be contacted with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal so that alkali metal ions are exchanged onto the surface of the oxide and then contacting the alkali metal exchanged oxide with a solution of the required cations so that the required cations replace the alkali metal cations. The corrosion inhibiting particles may be incorporated into protective coatings e.g. paints based on epoxy resins, alkyd resins, vinyl resins or chlorinated rubbers in amounts up to 80% wt.

  • Patent number: 4250057
Abstract: Catalyst for the synthesis of ammonia from hydrogen comprises (1) as support on graphite containing carbon having (a) a basal plane surface area of at least 100 m 2/G (b) a ratio of BET surface area to basal plane surface area of not more than 5:1 and (c) a ratio of basal plane surface area to edge surface area of at least 5:1 and (ii) as active component (a) 0.1 to 50% by weight of a transition metal and (b) 0.1 to 4 times by weight of (a) of a modifying metal or ion selected from the alkali or alkaline earth metals or ions. The modifying metal or ion is actively associated with the transition metal rather than the support.

  • Patent number: 4224192
Abstract: A modified alumina catalyst support is prepared by mixing a Solution A containing alkali, a Solution B containing a salt of a modifying metal of Group 111A, other than aluminium, or V111 other than a platinum group metal, of the Periodic Table, and a Solution C containing a aluminium salt, to form a precipitate, ageing the precipitate, separating the precipitate from the supernatant liquor and calcining the precipitate. A platinum group metal may be added to the support and the resulting catalyst is suitable for catalyzing hydrocarbon conversation processes, particularly catalytic reforming.
