Patent number: 7204584Abstract: A transfer belt apparatus, system and method are provided to prevent image blooming. For example, an ink jet printing apparatus may include a grounded print head, a counter-electrode opposite the ground print head, and a bi-layer transfer belt provided between a print head and a counter-electrode and at least partially supported by two or more transfer bias rollers. A method may include applying a voltage between a print head and a counter-electrode to accelerate ink drops coming out of the print head toward a transfer belt, and evacuating charge accumulated on the transfer belt with a time constant smaller than a drop ejection frequency of the print head.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2004Date of Patent: April 17, 2007Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Meng H. Patent number: 7188934Abstract: Various systems and techniques are disclosed for stopping, selectively controlling, and optimizing a flow of particles in a flowing stream. The systems and techniques utilize a multi-electrode assembly and various voltage waveforms applied to those electrodes. The particles flow past or near the electrode assembly and their flow is controlled by the configuration and arrangement of the electrodes and the voltage waveforms applied thereto. An additional strategy for countering particle leakage flow is also described.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 2004Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Meng H. Lean, John J. Ricciardelli, Osman T. Polatkan, Michael J. Savino, Armin R. Völkel

Patent number: 6969160Abstract: A toner gating apparatus for supplying toner through an aperture to a gas channel having a propellant stream. The toner gating apparatus has a traveling wave grid having electrodes. A first gating electrode is located proximate a first side of the aperture. A second gating electrode is located proximate a second side of the aperture. A third gating electrode is located in the gas channel. A first voltage source having a first phase is connected to both the first gating electrode and a first electrode of the travelling wave grid. A second voltage source having a second phase is connected to both the second gating electrode and a second electrode of the travelling wave grid. A third voltage source having a third phase is connected to both the third gating electrode and a third electrode of the travelling wave grid.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2003Date of Patent: November 29, 2005Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Meng H. Patent number: 5748221Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring colorimetric, gloss and registration data on a substrate exiting a printing machine. A detector using a series of red, green, and blue filters collects image data and maps the collected data to absolute color coordinates. The apparatus is factory calibrated to the specific colorants used in the printing machine. Gloss measurements are made using the same apparatus. Registration data between the various color separations is also obtained and feedback delivered to the various imaging modules. The detector allows on the fly data to be obtained and machine specific corrections to be made.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1995Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Vittorio Castelli, Edward J. Solcz, John J. Ricciardelli, Harold Anderson, Harold Brown

Patent number: 5150115Abstract: An inductive-type rotary encoder includes a stator having at least one conductive pattern on one side thereof, and a rotor having another conductive pattern on one side thereof which faces the at least one conductive pattern of the stator. The conductive patterns are inductively coupled to one another so as to generate an output signal indicative of the angular position of the rotor relative to the stator. In order to reduce the overall size and number of parts required, the circuitry for energizing the stator conductive pattern(s) and for generating the output signal can be provided on a printed circuit board, the opposite side of which contains the at least one stator conductive pattern.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1990Date of Patent: September 22, 1992Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Joannes N. Patent number: 4981362Abstract: The method and apparatus for measuring the particle concentration in a fluid that is passed between a reciprocally movable window and a single photodetector. A collimated beam of light is directed through the window and fluid to the photodetector. The window is moved from a first predetermined location to a second predetermined location to vary the light beam path length, thus enabling at least two different photodetector output signals. The ratio of the two signals provides the data needed to determine the particle concentration in the fluid.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1989Date of Patent: January 1, 1991Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Joannes N.
