Patent number: 10760366Abstract: A connector secures an ESP to coiled tubing containing a power cable. Upper and lower barriers in the connector housing define an upper chamber, a lower chamber, and a center chamber. An upper chamber dielectric fluid in the upper chamber is in fluid communication with the interior of the coiled tubing. A lower chamber dielectric fluid in the lower chamber is in fluid communication with motor lubricant in the motor of the ESP. Center chamber dielectric fluid in the center chamber is sealed from contact with the upper and lower chamber dielectric fluids by the upper and lower barriers. A thermal expansion device has a container portion for allowing center chamber dielectric fluid to expand into the container.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2019Date of Patent: September 1, 2020Assignee: Baker Hughes Oilfield Operations LLCInventors: John Jay Mack, Kenneth O'Grady, Kade Hammet Poper, Joseph Scott Thompson, Mark Bellmyer

Patent number: 10458415Abstract: An electrical submersible pump assembly has modules including a pump, at least one motor, and a pressure equalizer coupled to the motor. First and second ones of the modules have a threaded connection including a first adapter having threads. A second adapter mounted to the second module has a tubular body, a neck of smaller diameter than the body, an external shoulder at a base of the neck, a rim on the neck, and an external groove between the external shoulder and the rim. A collar is rotatably carried and axially movable on the neck, the collar being in threaded engagement with the threads of the first adapter, the collar having an internal groove. A split shoulder ring carried partly in the external groove and partly in the internal groove retains the collar on the neck and is biased into one of the grooves.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2018Date of Patent: October 29, 2019Assignee: Baker Hughes, a GE Company, LLCInventors: John M. Knapp, John Jay Mack

Patent number: 10030662Abstract: An electrical submersible pump assembly has modules including a pump, upper and lower tandem motors, and a pressure equalizer coupled to the motors. A thrust bearing support member is provided in the lower tandem motor and has a central counterbore with a thrust bearing located in the counterbore. Motor wire holes extend axially through the thrust bearing support member and are spaced radially outward from the counterbore. Motor wires of the lower tandem motor extend through the motor wire holes. A plurality of slots extend radially from the motor wire holes to the counterbore. Each of the slots have an axial length at least equal to an axial length of each of the motor wire holes, and a width greater than a diameter of each of the motor wires of the lower tandem motor.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2015Date of Patent: July 24, 2018Assignee: Baker Hughes, a GE Company, LLCInventors: John M. Knapp, John Jay Mack

Patent number: 9777561Abstract: An electrical submersible pump assembly has modules including a pump, a motor, and a pressure equalizer. A first adapter having threads is mounted to one of the modules. A second adapter is mounted to an adjacent one of the modules, the second adapter having a tubular body, a neck, and an external shoulder at a base of the neck. A collar is rotatably carried on the neck and in threaded engagement with the threads of the first adapter. A clamp secures around the neck between the external shoulder and the collar after the collar is fully engaged with the threads on the first adapter. A pair of flanges are mounted to and extend outward from the clamp. A motor lead locates between the flanges.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2014Date of Patent: October 3, 2017Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Jason Eugene Hill, Brown Lyle Wilson, Ryan P. Publication number: 20160084050Abstract: An electrical submersible pump assembly has modules including a pump, a motor, and a seal section. A drive shaft assembly extends from the motor through each of the modules. A threaded connection between at least two of the modules includes a first adapter having external threads and a second adapter having a neck with an external load shoulder. A collar is rotatably carried and axially movable on the neck. The collar has internal threads and an internal load shoulder. A shoulder ring having two segments encircles the neck. The shoulder ring has a first surface in abutment with the external load shoulder and a second surface in abutment with the internal load shoulder. A resilient ring tits around an outer diameter of the shoulder ring for retaining the ring segments on the neck prior to the collar being in threaded engagement with the threads of the first adapter.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2015Publication date: March 24, 2016Inventors: John Jay Mack, Jason Eugene Hill, Mark S. Megill, Ernest C. Mayfield, Tony Rocco Hepp, Scott Clayton Strattan

Patent number: 6752560Abstract: A submersible pump assembly having first and second components that are coupled together has a removable externally splined sleeve. A key is located in the keyway between the shaft sleeve and the shaft for transmitting torque. A threaded fastener secures to a threaded hole extending inward from an end face of the shaft end coaxial with an axis of the shaft end. The fastener has a head that engages an outward facing shoulder of the shaft sleeve to releasably secure the shaft sleeve to the shaft. A coupling sleeve has internal splines that engage the external splined section of the shaft sleeve. The coupling sleeve is in engagement with a shaft end assembly of the second component for transmitting torque between the shafts of the first and second components. The head that of the fastener transmits axial loads between the shafts of the first and second components.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2002Date of Patent: June 22, 2004Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Brown Lyle Wilson, Terry W.
