  • Patent number: 6183268
Abstract: An electrical connector for interconnecting circuit boards comprises a first electrical connector (12) and a second electrical connector (14), the first electrical connector including a first dielectric housing (16) in which an array of electrical blade contacts (34) is mounted, the second electrical connector including a second dielectric housing (42) in which an array of electrical receptacle contacts (58) is mounted, each of the receptacle contacts having hook-shaped fork members (60, 62) extending outwardly from a base member (64) and hook sections (60b, 62b) bent away from each other defining a lead-in for a blade contact section (36) of a blade contact (34) to be electrically connected therewith.

  • Patent number: 6176738
Abstract: A connector (10) is provided that is mountable in cutout (82) of a panel (80) and incrementally movable therein. First flanges (30) of a first layer (28) pass through recesses (84) along sides of the cutout (82) until second flanges (38) of a second layer (36) abut the near surface of the panel adjacent the recesses. The connector is then translated laterally to a fully mounted position until stop member (44) seats in a locking position with respect to an edge (96) of the cutout, thus maintaining the connector in its fully mounted position with first and second flange layers sandwiching portions of the panel therebetween, and preventing the connector from moving inadvertently to its initially inserted position. Mating connectors (10,100) mounted on respective panels (80,170) define an ultra low mated height permitting the panels to be very close together.

  • Patent number: 6015311
Abstract: A landing type smart card reader 10 is provided having a base 14, a cover 12, and a contact carrier 50. Spring arms 22 formed in the cover 12 cooperate with the contact carrier 50 to bias the contacts 18 away from an inserted smart card 102. Upon insertion of a smart card 102, the spring arms 22 will disengage the contact carrier 50 and the contacts 18 will land on and make electrical connection with pads of the smart card 102.

  • Patent number: 5746622
Abstract: A board-mountable electrical connector (100) having a housing (108) with two or more plug portions (104,106) each having two rows of contacts (114,116) therein extending from the mating face (102) to solder tails (136,138) along the connector's board-mounting face (140). An inspection aperture (144) allows visual inspection of the solder terminations of the solder tails of the contacts (116) of the inner rows to pads of a circuit board. Insert (150) is insertable into inspection aperture (144) following soldering and inspection, and is latchable in place to the housing in a manner permitting delatching and removal, if desired.

  • Patent number: 5697799
Abstract: An electrical connector (10) having a housing (12) with two or more plug-receiving cavities (14,16) each having two rows of contacts (20,22) therein extending from the mating face (12) to solder tails (26,28) along the connector's board-mounting face (24). An inspection aperture (30) allows visual inspection of the solder terminations of the solder tails (28) of the inner contact rows (22) to pads of circuit board. An integral ESD shell (32) traverses the mating face and includes plug-receiving slots (38,40) and an inspection slot (42) aligned with the housing apertures (14,16,30), and narrow strips (44) between the slots are supported by orthogonal shell wall sections (48) protecting the narrow strips (44) from damage during handling and assembly.

  • Patent number: 5668654
Abstract: An infrared communications adapter (10) is provided having a two part housing (22, 24) that snaps together to form a housing assembly (12) having an interior cavity (30). The interior cavity contains a circuit board (32) having communications circuitry and components thereon, including light emitting diodes (42, 44, 46) for indicating operating status of the unit and a photodiode array (34) for receiving and transmitting infrared signals. The adapter (10) includes a light pipe (50) having three light conducting channels (204, 206, 208) that conduct light from the three light emitting diodes (42, 44, 46) to viewing facets (190, 192, 194) on the light pipe that extend through openings in the housing (12). A lens (20) is arranged in a front end of the housing directly in front of the photodiode array (34). An articulated coupling 60 removably couples a stand (14) to the housing assembly (12) and permits aiming of the unit for receiving and transmitting the infrared signals.
