  • Publication number: 20220325146
Abstract: A packaging material including a polymeric film surrounding a plastic mass form material. In embodiments, methods include packaging sticky plastic mass form polymers within a polymeric film to prevent agglomeration. Processes include the use of a polymeric film composition that is compatible with the core plastic mass form. The polymeric film can be applied to the plastic mass form through continuous coextrusion, as a film through a hot melt form, fill, and seal process, or as a sealed film bag for inclusion of cooled and coated or uncoated solid sticky plastic material shapes.

  • Publication number: 20200109221
Abstract: A method to make a high melt strength amorphous poly alpha olefin (APAO) includes blending APAO with a free radical initiator using a residence time from 0.1 minutes to 10 minutes at a temperature range from 300 degrees Fahrenheit to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, thereby forming an intermediate. A graftable monomer may then be added to the intermediate in a ratio from 0.1:100 to 2:100 at a temperature range from 225 degrees Fahrenheit to 400 degrees Fahrenheit using a residence time from 0.1 to 20 minutes, thereby forming a functionalized APAO. A multifunctional monomer in an amount ranging from 0.1% to 5% by weight of the functionalized APAO can be added to the functionalized APAO for 0.1 to 20 minutes at 200 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, thereby forming a cross-linkable APAO. An acid neutralizer may be added to initiate crosslinking, making a crosslinked APAO with various degrees of crosslinking as observed by the changes in the melt viscosity.

  • Patent number: 10174228
Abstract: A process for reducing unreacted monomers and condensable and non-condensable hydrocarbon fractions in an APAO which includes introducing molten APAO into heated and insulated jacketed pipe while injecting a stripping agent based on the total weight of the contents of the jacketed pipe; maintaining the stripping agent with the molten APAO stream from ten seconds to ten minutes, forming a flowable heated mixture at 250 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit in the heated and jacketed pipe forming a flowing heated mixture; and passing the flowing heated mixture through a thin film evaporator assembly, while maintaining the temperature of the flowing heated mixture, stripping the organoleptic species and acids and volatile organic components from the flowing heated mixture and removing and recovering a condensable fuel fraction and a non-condensable hydrocarbon gas with energy, while simultaneously forming an odor-reduced, cleaned molten APAO-based HMA.

  • Publication number: 20090247706
Abstract: A continuous extrusion process for the functionalization of polymers through reactive extrusion. The process uses a continuous extrusion reactor comprising at least two sequential, very closely-coupled, independently driven screw extruders having a total effective length to diameter ratio greater than 60 to 1 and as high as 112 to 1 and providing greatly extended reaction times for efficiently producing a grafted polymer having a high level of functionalization. Drying of the polymer feed is performed in the continuous extrusion reactor. Multiple injections of reactants may be provided. Shear modification of the molecular weight of the grafted polymer is performed in the continuous extrusion reactor after the functionalization reactions. A continuous extrusion reactor and a grafted polymer having a high level of functionalization are also disclosed.
