  • Patent number: 6514909
Abstract: A self-contained sheet for forming an image comprising a support, a first layer of microcapsules containing a color precursor of the electron donating type in a carrier liquid on the surface of the support, a layer of microspheres overlying the microcapsule layer, and a developer material present in at least one of the microcapsule layer or microsphere layer, wherein the developer material can react with the color precursor to form a visible image when the color precursor is released from the microcapsules.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 6103378
Abstract: A process for producing a microencapsulated system comprising the steps of: (a) emulsifying a solution of color precursor in a solvent as a first internal phase and a diluent as a second internal phase in an external phase to produce discrete droplets of each of said first and second phases; and (b) encapsulating said droplets, is disclosed. A recording sheet is also disclosed which comprises a substrate having a layer of microencapsules containing a color precursor solution and microcapsules containing a diluent. Preferably the microcapsules are clusters of gelatin capsules.

  • Patent number: 5643506
Abstract: An improvement is produced in prior art processes for the continuous production of emulsions; the processes include the step of continuously combining volumetrically determined amounts of the hydrophobic phase and the hydrophilic phase in mixing apparatus in a volume ratio of about 45 to 95 percent hydrophobic phase to about 5 to 55 percent hydrophilic phase wherein the particle size of the emulsion is controlled by adjusting the volume ratio within the aforesaid ranges; the process is particularly useful as the emulsification step of a process for forming microcapsules.

  • Patent number: 5622650
Abstract: A mill for emulsifying immiscible fluids comprises a mill body having a cylindrical cavity extending therewithin, a fluid inlet at one end of the cavity and a fluid outlet near the other end, both in fluid communication with the cavity. The mill further comprises a stator having a first stator surface, and a rotor assembly having a rotor mounted on a shaft for rotation in the cavity, where the rotor has a first milling surface which faces the first stator surface. Between the first stator surface and the first milling surface is a first fluid milling space. The stator includes at least one annular row of stator projections extending from the first stator surface into the first fluid milling space, and the rotor includes at least one annular row of rotor projections extending from the first milling surface into the first fluid milling space. The annular rows of rotor projections are concentrically adjacent to the annular rows of stator projections within the first fluid milling space.

  • Patent number: 4751165
Abstract: An imaging sheet useful in forming images on plain paper, said sheet comprising a support having a plurality of photosensitive microcapsules and a developer-containing resin on the surface thereof, said microcapsules and said developer-containing resin being present in the same layer or in contiguous layers on the surface of said support, said microcapsules containing an internal phase which includes a photosensitive composition which changes in viscosity in response to exposure to actinic radiation and a color former which is capable of reacting with said developer and forming a visible dye image, said imaging sheet being useful in forming images by a process which comprises image-wise exposing said imaging sheet to actinic radiation, assembling said imaging sheet with a sheet of plain paper, heating said assembly, subjecting the assembly to a uniform rupture and transfer force, and separating said imaging sheet from said paper such that said image areas are area-wise transferred to said plain paper.

  • Patent number: 4720910
Abstract: A method for preparing a cathode material is provided. An insertion compound is ground until small particles of the insertion compound are formed. The insertion compound particles are encapsulated in an electronic and ionic conducting polymer to form the cathode material by using a spray dryer.
