A signal processor (17) is located remotely of the signal mixer (13) and is connected electrically thereto by a simple/inexpensive cable (15) having only two operative conductors and receives the current-fluctuating data signal via the cable (15). The signal processor (17) converts the current-fluctuating data signal into a voltage-fluctuating data signal for distribution to a local area network.

    Abstract: Normal hard-wired domestic burglar alarms have cables with six conductors extending between the alarm control panel and each event sensor (such as a PIR). Two of the conductors might provide current to a motion detector, two of the conductors might provide a circuit for a tamper switch, and two of the conductors might provide an indication of the motion detected by the motion detector. Wiring costs are reduced in the present invention by providing only two conductors which work to provide all of the functions of a six-conductor cable. To attach the two-conductor cable to a six-point terminal on the control panel, a special signal accessor and separator circuit is provided with six contacts to attach to the control panel terminals and two terminals for connecting to the conductor cable.

    Abstract: Computer apparatus provides distribution of processing among a plurality of loci of control. Specific loci of control include an origination point, an entry point to a recipient's mailbox, in a recipient's mailbox, an exit point from a recipient's mailbox and a completion point after a last recipient. Processing is performed in a foreground or background task, and interactively or non-interactively at each desired loci of control. Processing includes invocation of an application automatically upon receipt of subject data at a focus of control or upon manual command by the recipient at the locus of control. Pre-existing applications are invoked through a common interface between the present invention apparatus and pre-existing applications. A data update routine records recipient's modification of the data during recipient editing in multiple sessions at a locus. A recovery routine insures that at most the last editing session is lost in a system crash.
