Abstract: A patient support arrangement includes features that reduce pressure points and chafing. Chafing is reduced by using a mattress topper including first and second low friction sheets adjacent to each other and secured relative to a cushion, so that when the patient shifts relative to the cushion, the shifting is more likely to be borne between the first and second low friction sheets than between the patient and the mattress topper.

Abstract: The hybrid air immersion mattress is a non-powered complete support system using an adjustable zoned air/foam filled cells and self inflating automatic pressure relief system that surrounds the patient and conforms to an individual's shape to provide skin/soft tissue injury protection and assist in wound healing providing greater immersion and comfort. The air/foam filled cells conform to an individual's shape to provide skin/soft tissue injury protection and assist in wound healing. The air immersion mattress stimulates a fluid environment which enhances the prevention and management of pressure ulcers, skin flaps, and grafts. The hybrid air immersion mattress is designed for comfort and enhanced circulation utilizing adjustable air bladders together with high density support foam.

The pod includes straps to hold it in place on top of a mattress, and a chamber accessible by opening opposed side zippers which, when open, facilitate access to portions of the pod that are laterally deployed in advance of inflation. The pod is inflated by a small gas cylinder. The portions of the pod pulled laterally outwardly from the chamber include straps that may be pulled over a person between them to hold the person in place. They may also include handles allowing the pod to be easily gripped for transport. Additional straps may be provided to facilitate carrying or dragging the inventive pod.
