Patent number: 12082805Abstract: A wound closure device can be provided as described herein. In an example, the wound closure device includes a first suture segment having a first suture configuration and a second suture segment having a second suture configuration. The first and second suture configurations can be different from each other. For example, the first suture configuration can includes a first set of characteristics such as barbed or non-barbed, barb sizes, filament sizes, colors, materials, and/or the like and the second suture configuration can include a second set of characteristics such as barbed or non-barbed, barb sizes, filament sizes, colors, materials and/or the like that can be different from the first set of characteristics. The wound closure device can further include connecting section configured to provide a transition from the first suture segment to the second suture segment.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2021Date of Patent: September 10, 2024Assignee: Ethicon, Inc.Inventors: Jason T. Publication number: 20230031355Abstract: A catheter for delivering fluids includes a hollow tube having a proximal section, a distal section, and an elongated lumen that extends through the proximal and distal sections of the hollow tube. One or more fluid openings are formed in the distal section of the hollow tube, which are in fluid communication with the elongated lumen of the hollow tube. A visible marker collar is secured to an outer surface of the hollow tube and is located at a junction of the proximal and distal sections of the hollow tube. A visible marker filament is disposed within the elongated lumen of the hollow tube and extends between the junction of the proximal and distal sections of the hollow tube and a distal end of the hollow tube. The visible markers are used to identify a soaker region of the catheter used to infuse fluids or drain fluids from a patient.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2022Publication date: February 2, 2023Inventors: John A. Killion, Frank Richard Cichocki, JR., Gaoyuan Chen

Publication number: 20230035332Abstract: A method of making a catheter includes obtaining a hollow tube having a proximal section, a distal section, an elongated conduit, and one or more fluid openings formed in the distal section of the hollow tube that are in fluid communication with the elongated lumen. The method includes inserting a mandrel within the elongated lumen, positioning a first visible marker over an outer surface of the hollow tube at a junction of the proximal and distal sections of the hollow tube, and placing a sacrificial material over the first visible marker to completely cover the first visible marker. Heat is applied for shrinking the sacrificial material, which, in turn, compresses the first visible marker against the outer surface of the hollow tube, and for least partially melting the first visible marker for fusing the first visible marker to the outer surface of the hollow tube.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2022Publication date: February 2, 2023Inventors: John A. Killion, Frank Richard Cichocki, JR., Gaoyuan Chen

Publication number: 20220395273Abstract: A repaired tendon includes a proximal tendon section having a free end, and a distal tendon section having a free end that opposes the free end of the proximal tendon section. Four bidirectional barbed sutures are implanted in the repaired tendon for approximating the free end of the proximal tendon section with the free end of the distal tendon section. Each of the four bidirectional barbed sutures includes a proximal section having proximal barbs that engage the proximal tendon section, a distal section having distal barbs that engage the distal tendon section, and a stop located between the proximal and distal barbs that engages the approximated free ends of the proximal and distal tendon sections. The bidirectional barbed sutures have first suture bites and second suture bites that are shorter than the first suture bites.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 10, 2021Publication date: December 15, 2022Inventors: Jason T. Perkins, Alexander M. Cannara, Wei Kong, Matthew D. Putnam, David W. Overaker, James Amis, Mark T. Mooney, John Killion, Shane Lacy, Sandra Jean Savidge

Publication number: 20220354497Abstract: A device is configured for use in negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). The device includes a tube having a tube proximal end and a tube distal end and A coil having a plurality of windings extending from a coil proximal end to a coil distal end. The coil distal end is coupled to the tube proximal end in a manner that enables application of a negative pressure from within the coil through the coil to tissue surrounding the coil. The coil comprises a space between adjacent ones of the plurality of windings, the space having a predetermined dimension.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 2, 2022Publication date: November 10, 2022Inventors: Frank Richard Cichocki, JR., Scott J. Sloss, John A. Killion, Jared R. Mortus, William E. Cohn, Tushar Sharma, Gabriel Jacinto

Patent number: 6503163Abstract: The precision cable drive system of the present invention consists generally of a frame upon which is mounted the components of the drive. These include a motor having a drive shaft, a plurality of idler pulleys, a tensioner, and a drive pulley, to which the object being rotated is connected. A cable composed of woven polymer fibers is wrapped around the shaft of the motor and is stretched around the idler pulleys, the tensioner and the drive pulley. The drive is capable of rotating the drive pulley, and the load attached to it, by fractions of a degree, without play between the motor shaft and the drive pulley. The drives are used in a compact image steering device to rotate cameras and illuminators about two axis of rotation.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1999Date of Patent: January 7, 2003Assignee: Sensar, Inc.Inventors: Glen Van Sant, Christopher John Killion, Joseph Freeman Spangler, III
