  • Patent number: 11747788
Abstract: A piece of electronic equipment, such as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) or server, has a case adapted for mounting in a rack or cabinet. The equipment includes a presence sensor installed within the case such that it has an external field of view. A controller connected to the presence sensor. In response to a presence detection by the presence sensor, the piece of electronic equipment may take any of a number of different actions, at least some of which are geared toward making the area around the equipment more comfortable for workers and providing workers with helpful information. These actions may include, but are not limited to, changing the speeds of internal fans, powering up a display to provide status and maintenance information, and other such actions. The presence sensor may also be used to detect emergency conditions, such as fire.

  • Patent number: 10729860
Abstract: In one embodiment, a member for securely dispensing a substance to an intended user includes a first member configured to threadedly engage with a housing containing the substance; a second member coupled to the first member, the second member configured to fixedly secure the first member to the housing; a third member including a cavity sized and shaped to selectively receive the second member; and a valve coupled to the first member such that: when the second member is received within the cavity, the valve is in an open state that allows the substance to be dispensed from the housing to the intended user in response to a processor determining that a unique biometric attribute of the intended user is detected, and when the second member is not received within the cavity, the valve is in a closed state that prevents the substance from being dispensed from the housing.

  • Publication number: 20170342467
Abstract: Techniques and methods are provided for isolating nucleic acids from a sample. The methods include adding a chelating agent to the sample to block nucleic acid binding sites on contaminants in the sample; heating the sample to remove hydrocarbons; and lysing the cells using freeze-thaw cycles.

  • Publication number: 20100141467
Abstract: Apparatus (100, 300, 400) for providing visual and/or audible alert signals. The apparatus (100, 300, 400) comprises one or more lighting means (e.g., 105) for providing visual signals and siren means (e.g., 104) for generating at least one selected siren tone. The apparatus (100, 300, 400) also comprise speaker means (e.g., 103) for producing the audible alert signal based on the selected siren tone and magnetic attaching means (108) for attaching the apparatus (100, 300, 400) to the exterior of a vehicle housing magnetic attraction, wherein at least a portion of the magnetic attaching means (108) is configured to be de-energised in order to detach the apparatus (100, 300, 400) from the exterior of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20060009338
Abstract: A paperboard cup is provided having a polyethylene terepthalate film exterior surface. An inner surface of the paperboard substrate has an extrusion applied polyolefin coating. The side seam region of the cup is heat sealed in association with a polyethylenimine primer layer present within the sealed area. The process and resulting cup provides for a side seam seal having excellent tear strength properties which may be formed using conventional cup-forming equipment and sealing processes. The PET film layer may define a metallized or holographic substrate which enables an improved appearance to the cup exterior.

  • Patent number: 5320225
Abstract: A container or carrier for securely carrying a substrate such as a reticle, mask, wafer, or the like during a semiconductor manufacturing process or during the transport of the substrate. The container includes a housing having an opening through which the substrate may be inserted and removed. The housing includes an open box and a lid, the lid securely held in place by a unique latching mechanism. A door that is hinged upon the lid and held in place by biasing springs substantially seals the housing opening. Within the housing are a plurality of suction cups upon which the substrate rests and which apply suction to firmly engage the substrate on only one side when the substrate is in a contained position. The suction cups hold the substrate in the contained position thereby preventing relative motion between the container and the substrate.

  • Patent number: 4905581
Abstract: A doughball processing apparatus having cooperating press plates includes workpiece sensing means for determining the presence or absence of a workpiece on a conveyor belt for delivery to the processing position between the press plates. A control system is provided to manipulate the various components of the apparatus to insure the movable press plate does not contact the conveyor belt in the absence of a workpiece, while at the same time, insuring that belt indexing during the operation cycle is unaltered.

  • Patent number: 4056399
Abstract: A mortar composition for use in bonding cellular glass bodies includes a mixture, as expressed by percentage weight, of finely powdered reactive glass, such as cellular glass powder, in the range of between about 26 to 48 percent, inert aggregate filler in the range of between about 26 and 61 percent, and a silica sol binder in the range of between about 13 and 26 percent. The cellular glass powder has substantially the same composition as the cellular glass bodies being bonded. The inert aggregate filler preferably comprises round grained silica sand having a particle size wherein substantially all of the particles pass through a U.S. Standard #35 Screen and coarse cellular glass particles wherein substantially all the particles pass through a U.S. Standard #35 Screen. The ratio of finely powdered reactive glass to sol binder is maintained between about 1.8 to 1 and 2.0 to 1. By controlling the particle size of the finely ground cellular glass powder, the sol demand is substantially minimized.
