  • Publication number: 20160091583
Abstract: A method for optimizing Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) estimation using a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scanner includes detecting movement of a table holding a patient into a bore of the MRI Scanner and, while the table is moving into the bore, performing an MRI scan of the patient to acquire a multi-slice multi-dimensional MRI dataset of an anatomical region of interest of the patient. The multi-slice multi-dimensional MRI dataset is processed to obtain a three-dimensional model corresponding to the patient's body geometry. Then, a patient-optimized SAR estimation is calculated using the three-dimensional model of the patient's body geometry.

  • Patent number: 9055882
Abstract: In a method and apparatus to generate a magnetic resonance (MR) image in a volume of interest of an examination subject, the magnetization is excited in an additional volume in the subject by at least one RF pulse, in order to achieve a desired magnetization in the volume of interest. The additional excitation volume differs at least partially from the volume of interest. For this purpose, at least one MR overview image of the examination subject is analyzed automatically to determine a position of at least one anatomical structure of the examination subject, from which the volume of interest is automatically determined. The additional excitation volume is automatically determined using the position of the at least one anatomical structure. The MR image in the volume of interest is acquired with excitation of the magnetization in the automatically determined additional excitation volume.

  • Publication number: 20060122613
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fixator for aligning and setting a fractured bone with an internal canal, such as a Colles' fracture of the radius. The fixator includes two positioning wires and at least one pinball fastener. An elongated portion of each wire is inserted through either the radial styloid process or the dorso-ulnar cortex and into the intramedullary canal. A shaped portion of each wire extends from the wrist. The lateral portion of the shaped portions are coplanar when viewed from above and their overlapping portions are in side-by-side relation when viewed from the side. The external portions are also preferably curved with concentric overlapping portions so that the fixator resembles a bracelet. When necessary, the fixator includes additional interfragmentary stabilizing wires that are securely joined to the positioning wires. Crimp sleeves can be used in conjunction with the pinballs to securely join the wires.
