  • Publication number: 20080295943
Abstract: A medium truck tire (10) and more specifically a super single truck tire (10) includes belt plies (22, 23, 25) reinforced with steel cords which make an angle comprised between 0° and 5° with respect to the equatorial plane. Disposed between in embedded fashion between two of the belt plies (23, 25) is a pair of substantially full spiral helically wound overlays (24). The steel of the reinforcing cords comprises high elongation steel. The spliced belt plies (22, 23, 25) are in a RLL configuration making angles comprised between 45° and 75° with respect to the equatorial plane angular direction of the inwardmost ply (25) oppositely disposed relative to the outer plies (22, 23). The helically would layers (24) are disposed between the inwardmost R ply (25) and a radially outward L ply (23).

The helically would layer(s) (22) are disposed over the outermost L ply (23) and have a width substantially 100% of the footprint width of the tire tread.

  • Patent number: 7267149
Abstract: Pneumatic tires for service on heavy vehicles having a belt package with widened belts. The tire includes a belt reinforcing structure or belt package having multiple cut belts of which one of the cut belts has a width approximately equal to the tire footprint. Widening two of the cut belts and forming at least one of the widened cut belts from a lighter material serves to improve tire durability in the regions of the tire crown and shoulder without increasing the overall tire weight.

  • Patent number: 6837287
Abstract: This invention relates to a pneumatic tire with puncture sealing property and a method for preparing such tire. Such tire is prepared by building an uncured butyl rubber-based layer, which contains a peroxide and a dispersion therein of a particulate precured rubber selected from pre resin-cured butyl rubber and/or pre sulfur-cured diene-based elastomer, into an uncured tire and between an innerliner layer and the tire carcass. Upon curing the prepared tire under conditions of elevated temperature, a major portion of the uncured butyl rubber composition is depolymerized to form a tacky material, which contains said dispersion therein of said particulate precured rubber, which has puncture sealant properties. Such layer of depolymerized butyl rubber and dispersed precured rubber particles may be collectively referred to as the sealant layer.

  • Publication number: 20040112492
Abstract: A pneumatic tire for inter-city buses and motor coaches having improved handling characteristics and high mileage durability. The tire has a footprint shape factor (FSF) in the range of about 1.13-1.15, a drop off factor (DOF) in the range of about 1.10-1.20, and a tread arc width in the range of about 9.6-9.9 inches. The tire has a substantially rounded footprint. Pressure concentrations in the center and shoulder regions of the tire are minimized, reducing temperature rise, hydroplaning and rolling resistance while improving durability and wet traction.
