    Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for disinfecting a target area of a patient's body, such as an arm, leg or a chest, in a pre-surgical environment. The apparatus and method disclosed herein further provides for maintaining the target area of the patient's body in an aseptic condition while transporting the patient to and into the surgery room. The most preferred embodiments of the present invention contemplate the use of one or more sterile layers (e.g., sterilized bags or the like) that are used to enclose the target area of the patient's body coupled with a sterile substance delivery mechanism that disinfects the target area and also maintains the target area in an aseptic condition.

    Abstract: A method and a device is disclosed capable of reliably creating micro apertures as small as 0.0005 inches in diameter at depths of ten times or more the diameter of the wire. The device is comprised of a wire, fitted to a temperature-controlled holder that is further controlled by a cam or similar device to cycle the wire for creating the apertures at a predetermined position and orientation and a second component supporting a workpiece in which the apertures are to be created. The method involves cycling the wire into, through, and out of the workpiece. The cycle begins with the positioning of the wire and the workpiece. As the cam turns, the wire moves toward the workpiece, into and through the workpiece, and then is drawn out to return to its original position. The length of the cycle and the temperature of the wire are critical to providing a hole that is consistent, not tapered, and without residue.

    Abstract: An infusion pump for infusing drugs or other fluids into the body. The pump consists of two chambers. The storage chamber holds a large volume of drug at a variable and elevated pressure, which exceeds the preselected outflow pressure. The outflow chamber holds a smaller volume of drug at a constant outflow pressure. A moveable diaphragm attached to a valve controls the entry of the drug from the storage chamber into the outflow chamber. The pressure of the drug in the outflow chamber is determined by the forces applied to the diaphragm. The drug from the outflow chamber flows through a flow restrictor and catheter into the patient at a constant flow rate.
