  • Patent number: 4343451
Abstract: A sensor retaining system includes a base having a recess in which the sensor is placed and a slideable, one-piece clip for pressing the sensor into the recess against the base. A slotted fulcrum restricts the lateral and forward movement of the clip through the slot and forms a backstop against which the clip may be deflected. Cams, adjacent to the sensor, deflect the clip to press the sensor against the base and stabilize the sensor in the recess of the base.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 5, 1979
Date of Patent: August 10, 1982
    Assignee: Burroughs Corporation
    Inventor: John L. Armstrong
  • Patent number: 4186030
Abstract: A carpet is cleaned by establishing rubbing contact between the carpet and a cleaning pad thereby generating a charge of static electricity. The static charge is accumulated in sufficient magnitude to force migration of carpet soil into the pad. Alternatively, the static charge may be generated by rotation of a plastic static charge accumulator relative to stationary brushes in contact therewith.

  • Patent number: 4186031
Abstract: Removal of soil or stains from carpeting by a dry cleaning process, in which a pad including yarn selected in accordance with the carpet material and an intermediate reduced area of metal foil is rotated in contact with a carpet area moistened with a first cleaning solution including volatile hydrocarbons such as lower petroleum fractions, detergents, a surfactant, and water, over which a second solution of water and hydrogen peroxide is applied. Pad rotation establishes a controlled electrostatic field, and vapor, liquids, soil particles, etc., are drawn into the pad.

  • Patent number: 4067082
Abstract: A carpet cleaning machine comprising a rotary, plastic, static accumulator, drive means for rotating the accumulator, and a pile fabric cleaning pad driven by the accumulator. Preferably the accumulator is directly connected to a nipple pad making driving connection with the rear of the cleaning pad. A bleed connection including an adjustable spark gap limits the charge which the accumulator may carry, and a safety switch discharges the accumulator when the cleaning machine is tilted to expose the accumulator or parts electrically connected thereto.
