Publication number: 20100244889Abstract: The exemplary embodiments provide a resilient integrated circuit. An exemplary IC comprises a plurality of composite circuit elements, a state machine element (SME), and a plurality of communication elements. Each composite circuit element comprises an element interface and a selected circuit element which may vary by element type, and which may be configurable. The state machine element assigns various functions based on element type, such as assigning a first configuration to a first element type, assigning a second configuration to a second element type, and providing a first data link for the corresponding assignments. In response to detection of a fault or failure, the state machine element re-assigns the first configuration to another composite circuit element and creates a second data link for performance of the same function.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2009Publication date: September 30, 2010Applicant: Element CXI, LLCInventors: Steven Hennick Kelem, Jaime C. Cummins, John L. Watson, Robert Plunkett, Stephen L. Wasson, Brian A. Box, Enno Wein, Charles A. Furciniti

Patent number: 5563888Abstract: The present invention provides for carrier offset tracking which is particularly well suited for use in a receiver for digital cellular mobile telephones. The tracking includes storing samples received in time slots, generating estimates of the transmission channel impulse response, recording two samples of each tap of each channel impulse response estimate, generating frequency offset estimates from the phase difference in each time slot between the samples, combining this plurality of frequency offset estimates to generate a precise frequency offset estimate, and adjusting a controllable frequency source to compensate for the precise frequency offset estimate. Time-reversed operation further enhances performance and permits implementation with reasonable complexity for a standards compliant mobile receiver.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1993Date of Patent: October 8, 1996Assignee: Hughes ElectronicsInventors: Michael I. Parr, John L. Watson, T. G. Vishwanath

Patent number: 5537419Abstract: The present invention provides for sample timing adjustment using channel impulse response which is particularly well adapted for use in a receiver for digital cellular mobile telephones. The sample timing adjustment includes storing samples in time slots, generating estimates of the transmission channel impulse response, and using a subset of the samples received during the time slot, and generating error measurements of the degree to which the estimated channel impulse responses match the actual channel impulse responses. The different measures use simultaneously recorded samples having different time offsets. At least one sample used for each measure is advanced in time and one sample used for each measure is retarded in time relative to the samples used for generating the first measure. Then, a sample time setting that minimizes the error measurement is determined and the sampling is adjusted to reflect the newly determined sample time setting.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1993Date of Patent: July 16, 1996Assignee: Hughes ElectronicsInventors: Michael I. Parr, John L. Watson, T. G. Vishwanath

Patent number: 5471501Abstract: The present invention provides for a receiver that employs integrated symbol timing adjustment and carrier tracking algorithms based on channel impulse response estimates. It uses variable coefficient least mean square tracking during estimation of the transmission channel's impulse response. Maximum likelihood sequence estimation equalization can also be integrated into the system using a non-real time operation that permits and exploits "time-reversed" equalization to significantly enhance bit-error rate performance and permits implementation of all the functions in a reasonably simple receiver.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1993Date of Patent: November 28, 1995Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventors: Michael I. Patent number: 5263026Abstract: The present invention provides for an equalization method that forms the nucleus of a receiver for digital cellular mobile telephones. A number of distinct aspects of the design are considered novel, including non-real time operation that permits and exploits "time-reversed" equalization to significantly enhance bit error rate performance. The present invention employs the use of a maximum likelihood sequence estimation process. It uses variable coefficient least mean square tracking during estimation of the transmission channel's impulse response. It also employs the use of integrated symbol timing adjustment and carrier tracking algorithms. Time-reversed operation further enhances performance and permits implementation with reasonable complexity of a standards compliant mobile receiver.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1991Date of Patent: November 16, 1993Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventors: Michael I. Patent number: 4940550Abstract: This invention involves a multi-step, multi-force process for dewatering sludges which have high concentrations of magnetic particles, such as waste sludges generated during steelmaking. This series of processing steps involves (1) mixing a chemical flocculating agent with the sludge; (2) allowing the particles to aggregate under non-turbulent conditions; (3) subjecting the mixture to a magnetic field which will pull the magnetic aggregates in a selected direction, causing them to form a compacted sludge; (4) preferably, decanting the clarified liquid from the compacted sludge; and (5) using filtration to convert the compacted sludge into a cake having a very high solids content.Steps 2 and 3 should be performed simultaneously. This reduces the treatment time and increases the extent of flocculation and the effectiveness of the process.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1989Date of Patent: July 10, 1990Assignee: The Curators of the University of MissouriInventor: John L.
