  • Patent number: 4006767
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a pnuematic tire having a rubber tread and a cast, fabricless, elastomeric body of a material having viscoelastic properties. The ratios of the structural stiffness of the mid-sidewall of the tire body to the structural stiffness of the shoulder of the tire body and the crown of the tire body, and the tire body's resulting shape, are critical to give a durable, stable, long-wearing tire. These ratios yield a tire which has acceptable growth levels in its cross-sectional dimension on inflation and service and which has the crown area of the body functionally decoupled from the sidewall area so that the crown area functions in a manner similar to the belt of a radial ply tire.
