    Abstract: The invention relates to methods and systems for preparing macrocyclic polyester oligomer (MPO) via base catalysis. It is found that base catalysts are effective in the production of MPO, and they reduce the potential for undesired byproducts such as furans (e.g., THF) and acetaldehyde, which result from diol side reactions.
